Description

Apri 1 1924. 1,489,159`
' W. F. SCHILLING CLOTHES HANGING DEVICE Filed Jan. 26. 1923 gru/vento@ @Hoz netz WILLIAM r. sommaire, or osnxfosn, wisconsin.
CLOTHES-HANGING DEVICE.
Application filed January 26, 1923. Serial No. 615,087.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. Sonni- LING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oshkosh, in the county of Winnebago and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Clothes- Hanging Device, of which the following is a specification.
'Ihe present invention relates to a clothes hanging device and has for its principal object to provide a simple and efficient structure of this nature which will be reliable in i inexpensive to manufacture, duwell adapted for the'purpose for operation, rable, and
which it is designed.
Another object of the invention is to provide a hanging device of this nature which is useful in supporting shirts and other` like garments upon a clothes line so that the 20 garment may dry in a substantially unruiiled condition.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a hanging device of this nature with means for engaging a garment and similar means lfor engaging a support such as a clothes line, saidl means being arranged so that they will not interfere with clips now each uother.
With the above and ynumerous other obso jects in view as will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of arts as will be hereinafter more fully described and a5 claimed.
In the drawing- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a plurality of the hanging devices, showing the saine as used,
Figure 2 is a perspective of one of the hanging devices,
.Figure 3 is a side elevation of one of the clips used in conjunction with the hanging devices, and i Figure 4 is a detail perspective of the spring used with the clip.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the hanging device consists of a bar 1 having at its ends depending extensions ec 2 which terminate in offset extensions 3 that extend in opposite directions from each other and parallel to the bar. 1.- U on the bar 1 there is disposed a plurality o engaging clips 4 of any desired construction and these clips are mounted so as to be adjustable longitudinally of the bar 1. In the illustration shown in Figure l these clips .4 are adapted to engage the clothes line. On the offset extensions 3 which aredisposed beyond the ends of the bar 1 there are situated the clips 5 which are preferably the same construction as the'clips 4.' 'Ihe clips 5 are mounted on the extension 3 so that they may be adjusted longitudinally that is so that they may be moved toward or. away from each other for attachment to garments of various Widths.
I have shown the detail structure of the clips in Figures 3 and 4. Each clip 5 includes members 11 and 10, the latter of which is provided with a projection 12 intermediate its ends seated in the depression 13 of the first member whereby the members are rockably associated with each other. The spring 14 has its intermediate portion passing through the two members 10 and 11 and the terminals of its arms engaging the members a distance tion 12 so as to hold the clips in a closed position normally. The projection 12 is provided With an opening through which extends the bar 1 so that the clip is capable of -sliding thereon. There are numerous on the market which may be used in'place of the structure which .I have just described and no claim is .made to the particular clip described except as may be hereinafter claimed in combination with thebar 1.
Although I have described my invention with some degree of particularly it is to be understood that numerous changes in the details of vconstruction and in the combination land arrangement of parts may be r6;- sorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is 1. A device of the class described including a bar having depending extensions at its ends, offset extensions disposed on the depending extensions and situated in parallelism with the bar and beyond the ends thereof, a plurality of clips on the bar and a clip on each offset extension, said clips being longitudinally adjustable.
2. A device of the class described including a bar, extensions formed on the ends of the bar out of alignment therewith and beyond the ends thereof, a clip on the bar, and a clip on each of the. extensions, said clips being longitudinally adjustable.
from the location of the projec los 3. A device of the class described including an elongated bar, right angular extensions on the ends of the bar, second right angular extensions on the ends of the first extensions and disposed in parallelism with the bar and beyond the ends thereof, a pair of clips dis osed on the bar and movable longitudina 'y thereon and adapted to be engaged with a support such as a clothes l0 line, and a clip disposed on each of the last mentioned extensions and movable longi tudinally thereon and adapted to engage with a garment or the like.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
WILLIAM F. SCHILLING.
