To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN R. PAINTER, of Reading, Berks county, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Magazines for Stoves, of which the following is a specification:

The object of my invention is to so connect the lower end of the magazine of a base-burning stove to the body ofthe same that, while it can be readily removed when necessary, it cannot be detached by accident; and this object I attain by the combination of lugs b b and a rib, x, on the body B of the magazine, with a notched flange, a, on the detachable portion A, as shown in the vertical section, Figure 1, of the accompanying drawing, and in the plan view, Fig. 2, ofthe portion A, and sectional plan, Fig. 3, of the portion B.

The lower portion of the magazine of a baseburning stove, being subjected to the greatest heat, is more rapidly destroyed than the upper portion 5 hence it has been the practice to so construct magazines that the lower portions can be detached so as to make way for new ones. Generally the lower portions'are secured to the upper portions by rivets, which must be cut away when the magazine has to be thus repaired. A plan has also been adopted of supporting the lower portion on lugs projecting from the upper portion, so that by turning the former to a given point it will be detached; but the defect oi' this plan has been that the lower portions, owing to the manipulation of the fuel, and through other causes, became accidentally detached-a defect which my invention has been especially designed to obviate.

There are four lugs, b, on the body of the magazine, and four corresponding notches, m, in the flange a of the lower portion, in which ange there is also a fifth notch, n, adapted to a narrow rib, x, which extends from one of the lugs b upward on the body B to about the height shown in Fig. l.

In applying the lower portion A to the body B of the magazine the former is so adjusted that the notches on its Ilan ge a will coincide with the lugs b b, when the portion A may be elevated until its flange is above the top of the rib x, after whichl the said portion A must be turned until its notch a coincides with the rib x, when it may be permitted to fall until arrested by the lugs b. The portion A of the magazine is now securely suspended from the upper portion,J from which it cannot be de-v tached without turning, and this turning is prevented by the rib m, above the top of which the flange must be elevated before the lower portion A of the magazine can be detached.

I claim as my invention- The combination described ofthe upper portion BA of the magazine, its lugs b b, and rib x, with the lower portion A and its notched ilange a.
