Description

THEODORE W. WATSON, OF PHOENIX, ARIZONA.
RECEPTACLE SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patentett May 23, 1922.
Application filed August 31, 1920. Serial No. 407,111.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE W. VVATsON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Phoenix, in the county of Maricopa and State of Arizona, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Receptacle Support, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a metallic receptacle support and more specifically is directed to a novel support and a pivoted cover for a container such as a garbage can, milk can or the like.
One of the objects of my invention is the construction of a support for a metallic receptacle having a pivoted cover secured thereto which may fit receptacles of various height.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a support and a pivoted cover therefor which may be raised and lowered, and means to retain said cover at the top of the support when a receptacle is being removed.
Another and still further, yet important object of my invention is to provide'a support of the character stated which will be extremely simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture, and one which will be strong and durable to withstand rough or careless usage.
With these objects in view and others which will be suggested as the nature and purpose of my invention are revealed in the specification and drawing, I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention in the drawings wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view.
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4: is a detailed sectional View on the line k4 of Fig. 3.
Similar numerals in the specification referring to like and corresponding parts on the drawing, I have shown a semi-circular support designated in its entirety by numeral 1 for a metallic receptacle 2 such as a garbage can, milk can or the like. The bottom 3 of the support is provided with a flanged portion 4 cut away at its front 5 whereby the receptacle may be placed under a suitable cover 6 to be described. Peripherally spaced supports in the form of hollo-w uprights 7 8, and 9 extend upwardly from the bottom to which they are secured or made integral therewith, the uprights 8 and 9 being arranged diametrically opposite and upright 7 located midway between them. The supports 8 and 9 are angular in cross section for a purpose to be described. A. semi-circular top 10 having a flange 11 connects the said uprights at their top and upger sides as is obvious from Fig. 1.
n the inner upper sides 12 of the side supports 8, 9, I provide inverted L- shaped slots 13, 14 in which the cover 6 is pivoted. The cover 6 is provided with a transverse strip 15 across its diameter and has the usual hand grip 16. The ends 17, 18 of said strip are reduced as at 19, 20 for passage through the L-shaped slots above referred to and have angular extensions 21, 22 shaped to conform to the cross sectional contour of supports 8 and 9 which hold the said cover 6 from rotating in the hollow uprights 8 and 9. The vertical portions of slots 13 in the side of the supports may extend any desired distance to adapt the top to be used on receptacles of various heights.
In normal position, the cover is held from rotating in the hollow supports. When a receptacle is placed on the support, the cover is lowered in the vertical slots and fits the top of the can.
While I have shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention which I have found to be very practical and highly efficient, various changes and modifications thereof may be resorted to and I do not wish to be limited or restricted to the exact details of construction shown, except as may be included within the subject matter being claimed.
What I claim is:
1. A receptacle support of the class de scribed, comprising a base, supports rising therefrom and having angle slots in their inner faces, and a cover having laterally extending widened fiat arms mounted in said slots to hold the cover against rotation and from escape from the slots. I
2. A receptacle support of the class described comprising a base, supports rising therefrom, said supports having inverted L-shaped slots in their inner faces, and a cover having laterally extending flat arms mounted in said slots adapted to hold the cover against rotation when in the vertical portion of said slots anal to permit it to turn when said arm enters the horizontal portions of the slots.
3. A receptacle support of the class cleoribecl comprising a base a plurality 0t .iollow vertical supports attached to the base and having inverted L-shaped slots in the inner faces of the upper portions of certain of said supports a cover having laterally extending plates with reduced necks connecting them to saio cover anal adapted to slide in said slots and the plates in said supports, said necks being angular in cross section whereby said cover may be supported in horizontal position When the necks are in the vertical portion of said slots and held thereby against rotation.
In testimony whereof l my signature hereto.
