J. J. MARSHALL.
WAITING TRAY.
(Application filed. June 25, 1898.)
(No Model.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES J OIIN MARSHALL, OF SYDNEY, NEIV SOUTH TALES.
WAITING=TRAY.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 614,565, dated November 29, 1898.
Applioationfiled June 25, 1898- Serial No. 684,479. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES JOHN MARSHALL, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Waverley, Sydney, New South Wales, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Waiting-Trays; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention.
This invention has for its object the construction of a convenient form of dumb- Waiter, by means of which tumblers, wine glasses, and biscuits, &c., may be carried supported on a bottle Without danger of breakage.
I also use the appliance as an advertising medium.
The annexed drawings will facilitate explanation.
Figure 1 is an elevation of the appliance supported on a bottle, and Fig. 2 a plan of same.
The invention consists of two or more wires a, curved at the top, as at b. A wire ring 0 is soldered on the wires CtlJO bind them together. In some instances I may dispense with the wire ring 0.
To the wires on are soldered the trays d and e, of tin or other suitable material. The upper tray (1 has a hole in its centerlarge enough for a beer or Whisky bottle or the like to enter, the inner edge being raised, as at f, to prevent undue knocking. Grooves g are cut in the side and bottom of the tray to receive wine-glasses 2', and in the bottom of the tray are also holes to receive tumblers 7. The bottom tray 6 is an annular ring with its inner edge 75 raised to the level or higher than the outer edge Z.
The Wires a and trays d and e are so constructed that the whole weight of same is supported by the shoulder of a bottle when placed thereon, the bottom of the bottle being below the lower tray.
I may attach flags m, on which advertisements may be placed, and on the sides of the trays I place advertisements.
Vhen required to be used, the appliance is placed on a bottle, as shown, glasses placed in the tray d, and biscuits, 850., in the tray e. The neck of the bottle is grasped by the hand, and the whole may be carried without risk of breakage, or the bottle may rest 011 the hand when being carried.
When the contents of the bottle are to be used, the bottle is put down and the trays, &c., raised from same by means of the finger pieces b and the glasses filled.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 4 1. In combination with a bottle or the like, a pair of Wires extending on opposite sides thereof, means for clamping said Wires to the bottle, and a tray carried by the wires, said wires and tray being supported on the said bottle, substantially as described.
2. In combination with a bottle or the like, wires to extending vertically on each side thereof with means for clamping them to the bottle, and a tray carried by said wires hav= ing circular openings for tumblers and having slots extending inwardly from the edges for the reception of Wine-glass stems, substantially asdescribed.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses;
JAMES JOHN MARSHALL.
Vitnesses W. WALKER, D. WALKER.
