Q7720 BY A TTORNE Y.
Patented Dec. 10, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT- OFFICE J'OHN STEFAN, DETROIT, .MICHIGAN LUNCH KIT Application filed October 25, 1928. Serial No. 314,887.
having a cover enclosing the shelvesto protect the food and to retain the food 1n place 7 on the shelves.
Another object of the invention is toprovide a lunch kit comprising a' base and a central standard on which the shelves are mounted, a cover member being provided fitting over the shelves and engaging the base, the cover member being secured to the central standard and a handle being provided on the cover member whereby the entire device may be carried as a unit.
'A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described in which the cover member may be removed and utilized as a stand for the lunch kit.
These objects, features of the invention, are hereinafter more fully described and claimed and the preferred form of construction by which these objects are attained is shown in the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a plan view of a lunch kit embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an elevation showing the cover member utilized as a stand for the lunch kit.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing an alternative form of device.
As shown in Fig. 2, the device comprises a circular sheet metal base plate 1 having a depending flange 2 terminating in an outwardly extending flange 3.
A standard 4 is provided which is secured in the center of the base plate 1 by the two nuts 5." A pair of collars 6 are secured to the standard 4 by the set screws 7 and a circular sheet metal shelf 8 is supported between the collars 6 and is rotatable on the its standard 4. A similar circular shelf 9 is secured bet-ween the collars 10 on the standard 4 and this shelf and collars are adjustable in position by the set screws 11. A cylindrical receptacle 12 is supported adjacent the upper end of the standard 4: be
and the several novel 'memb'er 15 up over the shelves.
standard 4 by the set screws 14 and this receptacle is rotatably mounted on't-he standard between the collars or may be fixed in position by setting the collars tightly against the receptacle bottom. A cylindrical cover member 15 is positionedover the shelves with the lower edge thereof seating on the flange 3 of the base plate 1 as shown in Fig. 2 and the upper threaded end of the standard 4.
extends through an aperture provided therefor in the top 16 of the cover member. A. plate 17 issecured to the top of the cover member and is provided with an aperture through whichthe upper end of the stand-.
ard may extend and a wing nut 18 is threaded onto the upper end of the standard 4 and causes theedge of the cover to bindingly engage the flange 3 of the baseplate. As shown 1n Flg. 1, a pair of brackets 19 are secured to" the plate 17 and the handle 20 is mounted in these brackets and maybe turned from the position shown in Fig. 1 to that shown in Fig. 2. i
In filling the lunch kit, sandwiches are po-.
sitioned on the rotatable shelves 8 and 9 while bottled goods. canned goods and other bulky articles maybe positioned on the base plate "1.- The receptacle 12-is'utilized for carrying fruit or other loose articles and, when the lunchkit has been filled, the cover member 15 iis inserted to the position shown in Fig. 2, and the cover is tightly secured over the food by turning-up the wing nut 18. As theentire device is made of metal, food is protected" from ram, dust or dirt and from insects or I other foreign matter when the cover member is secured in place.
To open the lunch kit, it is only necessary to removethe wingnut 18 and lift the cover The cover member' may then be positioned on the ground, as shown in Fig. 3, and the base platel may be positioned on top of the cover -member so that the cover member provides a stand for the device; Due to the depending flange 2, the base plate 1' is recessed sufficiently to be'positioned overthehandle 20 and brackets 19 shown in Fig. 1 so that a firm support is thus provided. for the device tween the collars 13 which are secured to the I I When in this position, as shown in Fig. 2, the
rotatable shelves may be readily turned by hand toallow removal of any of the contents of the shelves. It will be noted with the cover in position, as shown in Fig. 2, that the cover will retain the articles on their respective shelves, and the device, even if accidentally tipped over, will still retain the articles on the proper shelves.
In Fig. 4, an alternative form of device is shown in'which the entire device is rectangular in form. In this form, a rectangular cover is used having the same general characteristics of the cover shown in Figs. 1 and Q and the shelves in this form are not rotatable but are supported from turning by the tworods 21 which extend through the shelveeandbase plate and are each provided with a nut 22 threaded onto each end'thereof, In other respects, this form of device is the same as that shown in Fig. 2; i
From the foregoing description; .it becomes evident that the device is very simple and efiicient in operation, will not easily get out of order, is of low manufacturing-cost, and provides a device which accomplishes the objects described.
7 Having thus its utility and'mode ofoperatiomwhat -I claim and desire to secure-by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. In a lunch kit, aicircular base having a flanged edge, a cylindriealcover memberseatingen said flanged edge, a standard" secured to the center of thebase plate and extending upwardly therefrom, the cover member being provided with an aperture-in thetop through fully described my invention, I
