The present invention relates to a handy kit designed for use at picnics, outings and the like and the prime object of the invention resides in the provision of a kit of this nature which may be used to advantage in carrying various edibles used at picnics, and the like and may be used for mixing lemonade and the like.
Another very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a kit of this nature which is simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, compact and convenient, thoroughly eiiicient and reliable in use and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the kit with the cover removed.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the frame.
Figure 3 is a horizontal section taken substantialiy on the line 3--3 of Figure 4, and
Figure l is a vertical diametric section through the kit.
Referring to the drawings in detail it wlll be seen that the numeral 5 denotes a cylindrical container open at the top and having a convenient handle 6 of the bale type. Numeral '7 denotes a lid to rest on top of the container and having an annular iiange depending downwardly therefrom and indicated at 8 to telescope inside the top of the container. A rack for use inside the container comprises a frame denoted generally by the letter F and a plurality of shelves Sa, Sb and Sc. The frame E' comprises an upper ring 9 and a lower ring 10 connected by a plurality of rods 11 disposed between 183 segments of the ring. A semi-ring l2 is xed to the intermediate portions of the rods 11 equidistant between the rings 9 and 10 on the inner sides of the rods 11. Suitable handles 14 are provided on the .ring- 9. A clip 15 is provided 011 the centrally located rod 11 to project immediately above the central portion of the semi-ring 12. A shoulder 16 projects from said centrally located rod 11 under the central portion of said semiring 12. The shelf Sa is fixed on the ring 9 and the shelf Sb is xed on the ring 10. The shelf Sc has the marginal bead 17 to receive the semiring 12 and rest thereon and the clip 15 extends over the removable shelf Sb to hold the same in place.
With the middle shelf in place, three pies can be carried or two pies and a cake, a plate of cookies, sandwiches, etc. With the middle shelf removed, the lower compartment may be used for a layer cake, a dish of salad or the like while the upper compartment may be used for a pie, a plate of sandwiches or the like. These usages have been mentioned merely to bring out some of the utility of the device. It is apparent that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A rack for a receptacle comprising upper and lower rings, a semi-circular row of vertically arranged rods having their ends connected to the rings, the end rods of the row being arranged diametrically opposite each other, a semi-ring connected to intermediate parts of the rods with its ends connected to the said end rods, a horizontally arranged short and flat strip connected to the middle rod and extending under the semiring and projecting inwardly therefrom, a spring clip connected to the middle rod and slightly spaced above the semi-ring, and three circular shelves, each having peripheral grooves for receiving the rings, a portion of one of the shelves being held between the strip and the spring clip.
ESTHER I-IANSON.
