1 Claim.
The present invention relates to home, restaurant and similar serving plates and has reference, in particular, to one Whose features are such that it functions as an ideal utility plate for convenient serving of wafiles, griddle cakes and the like.
Briefly, the invention comprises a central dished portion, which constitutes a receiver and holder for the hot cakes or wafiles as the case may be, and a surrounding and outstanding rim portion, the latter being characterized by a plurality of separate and individual pockets or receptacles for butter, jelly or marmalades, and special trimmings such as strips of bacon, fried tomatoes, fried apples or whatever else is deemed to be appropriately fitting.
The obvious object of the invention is to provide a simple and practical plate having the aforementioned features and expressly adapted to fulfill the essential requirements of a plate in this category of invention.
Other objects and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawings.
In the drawings, wherein like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the views:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a special purpose waille or equivalent plate constructed in accordance with the principles of the present invention.
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2- -2 of Figure 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary section on the line 33 of Figure 1, also looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring now to the drawings b distinguishing reference numerals, it is to be stated that the plate is of any appropriate material, from which restaurant, home and equivalent table-type plates are popularly made. I am interested in the physical characteristics and coordinated layout of same, and therefore, interested in a plate of suitable proportions and material which is characterized by a shallow dished portion 5, which constitutes the plate proper. This is here shown as circular in top plan View and has a raised bottom with a supporting lip G therebeneath. The rim, which is elevated above the dish proper is annular and is denoted by the numeral I. It has around its outer perimeter or peripheral edge an endless upstanding head 8. At diametrically pposite points, it is provided with radial ribs 9-9 and Ill-l0 which, in conjunction with integral semi-circular inner marginal beads II and 12, define a series of receptacles or pockets. For exampie, segmental pockets l3 and M are thus provided on opposite sides in Figure 1, and intervening smaller pockets I5 and I6 are also provided. The pockets l5 and I6 have notches l1 and I8 providing outlets, these outlets serving as drains and communicating with the main dish or plate 5. Incidentally, these notches may be important factors, in that they allow melted butter which is placed in either one ofthe pockets [5 or IE to drip or run into the main plate, and where jelly of proper fluidity is placed in the other pocket, it, too, may flow into the main plate. Where liquid syrup is employed, it will easily flow from the pocket through the notch and into the main dish to be absorbed by and partly coat and flavor the waflles or pancakes, as the case may be.
Needless to say, I am aware that in different sections of the country, practices in reference to serving waflles and hot cakes vary. It is believed, however, that the plate herein shown and described will be appealing and novel as well as practical since the main dish or plate 5 will serve to accommodate a complete serving of wafiles, or a stack of griddle cakes or pancakes. In addition, one pocket I5 will serve well to handle jelly, marmalade, syrup or the like and another pocket, the pocket l6 for example, will be convenient for holding and serving cubes of butter. The largest segmental or sector-shaped pockets l3 and I4 may be used in any manner desired for accompanying strips of bacon, fried apples, or fried slices of tomatoes, as the case may be.
A careful consideration of the foregoing description in conjunction with the invention as illustrated in the drawings will enable the reader to obtain a clear understanding and impression of the alleged features of merit and novelty sufficient to clarify the construction of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
Minor changes in shape, size, materials and rearrangement of parts may be resorted to in actual practice so long as no departure is made from the invention as claimed.
Having described the claimed as new is:
A wafile plate of the class described comprising a central circular dished portion to hold waifles or pancakes as the case may be, a surrounding annular rim portion, said rim portion having radially spaced rib-like beads, said beads being upstanding and connected by relatively short radial divider ribs, defining a pair of diametrically opposite sector-shaped elongated pockets, and a pair of diametrically opposite intervening relatively smaller pockets, the inner rib-like bead portions invention, what is 3 of the smaller pockets having notches and said Number notches communicating with the dished portion 664,314 in the manner and for the purposes described. 1,321,145 ANSTRICE L.
