Description

FLOYD A. PRICE, or TIDEWATER, OREGON.
PLATE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 11, 1919.
Application iled Juner, 1918. Serial N o. 237,948.
To all whom z't may concern.'
Be it known that I, FLOYD A. PRICE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tidewater, in the county of Lincoln and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Plate, of which the following is a specification.
The subject of this invention is a plate, and the main object of the invention is the provision of a plate having a plurality of receptacles in which articles may be placed.
The invention also contemplates generally improving the construction and enhancing the utility of plates.
With the foregoing and other objects in v View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the cornbination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
A practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, where- 1n:-
.Figure l is a plan view of a plate con- .structed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. l;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Figl.
Referring to the drawing by numerals of reference In carryin out the invention the body l of the plateis of the ordinary Vdished formation and upon this body are formed the side flanges or wings 2, which are transversely concavo-convex to provide a troughlike receptacle in which a knife and fork may be placed when not in use. These side wings 2 merge into a rearwardly extending flange or rim provided with apertures or depressions 3 and 4, in which articles, such as salt and pepper shakers may be placed. Between the depressions or apertures 3 and 'l a recess 5 may be formed to serve for the reception of a butter plate or the like.
From the foregoing it will be evident that a plate constructed in accordance with the' ginal flange extended across one end of the plate and along the sides of the plate and terminated in spaced relation to the other end of the plate, the edges of the side portions of the flange being upturned to rein force the flange and to constitute knife and fork retainers, that part of the flange which extends across the end of the plate being provided with openings therethrough, the openings constituting combined suspending means and article receivers, the said part of the flange being depressed between the openings to form a downwardly bulged reinforcement osetting the weakening due to the presence of the openings, the reinforcement constituting a receiver.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing `as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
