This invention relates to a food carrier and has relation more particularly to a device of this kind especially designed and adapted for use in connection with pie or cake.
Primarily, it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this kind which, in additon to serving as a carrier, provides a medium to facilitate cooling of cakes and pies or to store the same when desired.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind which, in addition to providing a convenient medium for transporting pies or cakes, also serves to provide means for storing plates and the like.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind comprising a plurality of superimposed and properly spaced tray members and wherein the assembly of such members is to permit the ready removal of one of the trays for separate use as, for example, a doughnut drain.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved food carrier whereby certain important advantages are attained, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order that my invention may be better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein is illustrated a view in perspective of a carrier constructed in accordance with an embodiment of the invention.
In the embodiment of the invention as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, 3 denotes a bottom tray member of a skeleton structure and which embodies an annular rim member I to which are secured the extremities of'the spaced parallel members 2 in pre-determined, equi-disrelation to the plane of the bottom tray member B. The intermediate or top cross bar 4 of the member M has hingedly connected thereto, as at 5, a handle 6, to provide means whereby the carrier as a unit may be readily and conveniently transported.
The rim I of the bottom tray member at a point substantially midwayof the side arms 3 of the member M has welded or otherwise ri idly secured thereto, the upstanding relatively close and parallel elongated rods 1 of a length substantially siliency and which is disposed through the handle 6 and over the top or intermediate bar 4 of the member M. This rod I l is of a length to extend entirely across the top tray member T and its free extremity is provided with an upwardly facing hook member l2 which is adapted to straddle from below the upper or intermediate bar It of a holding member H and the adjacent portion of the rim 8 to maintain said holding member H in raised or effective position.
In the present embodiment of the invention, the holding member H is in the form of an inverted U- and the outer or free extremities of the side arms l4 thereof are provided with the eye members I5 which interlock with the eye members l6 carried by the extended portions of certain of the intersecting members 2 of the bottom tray member B. This mounting of the holding member M permits the same to be readily swung down into open position or raised into desired closed position. The side arms 3 of the member M, the side bars 14 of the member 1-1 when in raised or holding position and the rods I serve to effectiveate or central tray member C. This central or 7 intermediate tray member C comprises a rim I"! with which is rigidly secured the extremity of the equi-distantly spaced and parallel intersecting members l8 and also includes a diametrically dis posed bar l9 passing above and below adjacent intersecting members 18 and at right angles thereto. The bar I9 may be welded or otherwise rigidly secured to the members l8 and is of a lengthto extend slightly beyond the rim IT to provide outstanding and radially directed lugs 28 to engage from above within the upstanding supporting hook members 2! carried by the side arms 3 of the member M substantially midway thereof.
The rods 1 hereinbefore referred to, at points substantially midway thereof, are connected by the spaced but closely adjacent cross bars 2| between which is received a portion of the rim [1 5 6 the spaced elements being in approximately the same horizontal plane, and a center rack adapted REFERENCES CITED m pggi gion b t the top and. bottom racks, The following references are of record. in the the center mck being of circular form and havfile of this patent:
