` 1,576,139 N. N. SCHNEIDER FLOWER HOLDER Filed March 27, 1925 Patented Mar.' 9,1926.
UNITED `,STATES NELLY NELSON SCHNEIDER, OF NAUVOO, ILLINOIS.
' FLOWER HOLDER.
Application filed March 27, 1925. Serial No. 18,812.
To all whom zt may concern: h
Be it known that I, NELLY NELSON SCHNEIDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nauvoo, in the county of Hancock and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Flower, Holder, of which the following is a. specification.
This invention relates to improvements in flower holders and is more particularly adapted to a basket for holding flowers, the basket being principally adapted for use upon graves and cemetery lots.
One of the important objects of the present invention is to `provide a flower holder wherein means is associated with the basket for supporting the same in an upright position on the ground so that the accidental displacement ofthe basket is prevented.
A further object of the invention is to provide a flower holder of the above mentioned character whereinV 'a plurality of anchoring pins or stakes are associated with the base ofthe basket, the stakes being adapted to enter the ground so that the base `of the basket will rest rigidly on the surface. Y A still further object is to provide a flower holder of the .above mentioned character which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durableaand further well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
Other'objects and advantages will becoi .1e apparent during the course of the following description,Y l l In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals desgnate like parts throughout the same; Y l Figure 1 is a side elevation of the Howe holder embodying my invention showing the manner in hich the anchoring pins or stakes aredassocia with the base-of the basket, 5 Figure 2 is a plan view of the l e.
' 4 In the"drawing, vwherein for ttlii purpose of illustration is show'n the 'preferred em-l bodiment' of my invention, the numeral 1 designates generally thebasket the body` 2l '5 0 thereof being formed of woven materialin ,the mannenwell known in theart. 'The base ofthebasket comprises a substantially eircular disk. yThe base is provided with an annular series of spaced openings4 -adj acent the peripheral edge thereof whereby the disk may be interwoven to the bottom of the body 2 by the vertically arranged strands 5 of the woven material from which the body is formed.
The base 3 is further provided with the spaced laterally extending ears 6, each of which is provided with an opening 7, and the purpose of these ears will hereinafter be more fully described. v
The basket is adapted to be supported in an upright position on the ground through the medium of the anchoring pins or stakes 8. These anchoring pins or stakes extend surface of the base and enable the bottom face of the base to rest on the surface of the ground.
The provision of a flower holder ofthe above mentioned character enables the basket to be supported in anupright position on the ground against accidental blowing over by the wind,` or. against the basket being knocked' over by small animals.
A basket of the above mentioned character is particularly adapted to be used for holding flowers on a grave or cemetery lot, although it is to be understood that I do not wish to limit myself to thev use of the y present invention.
The simplicity inwhich my improved flower holder is constructed enables the same vto be readily and easily'set up in position for use, and may furthermore be readily and easily removed by removing the `anchoring pins or stakes. Y
While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in thesize, shape andl arrangement of parts may 'be resortedto,
without departing from the spirit ofthe 'invention and the. scope -of the appended claim. l
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is A flower holder` comprising a basket, the A ed to enter the ground for supporting the basket inan upright position on the ground.
and heads formed on the upper ends of the 10 anchoring pins and engaging the upper face of the respective ears. p
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
NELLY NELSON SCHNEIDER.
