TO all whom it may conccrn:

Be it known that I, ROBERT J, PETER- MANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at 362 East lth Street, in the County of Bronx and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Knittng Device.

The object of my said invention is the provision of a simple and advantageous knitting device through the medium of which various woolen articles may be expeditiously and easily knitted by normal persons as well as those who are subnormal.

To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and defintely claimed.

In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specificationz- Figure I is a side elevation of the kntting device constituting the best practical embodiment of my invention that I have as yet devised.

lt is within the purview of my invention to form my novel device of Wood, metal or other material or materials compatible with its purpose. v

Among other elements said device comprises a platform 1, preferably, though not necessarily, of general rectan ular form. In the said platform 1 an extending throughout the thickness thereof is a central vertical opening.

Disposed in the said opening and arranged in the same plane as the platform l and having its periphery spaced from the wall of the opening in the platform is a circular disk 2. The said disk 2 is appropriately fixed to a pedestal 6 which, in turn, is fixed to a cross bar 5.

Fixed to and depending from the platform 1 are end walls 4 in the lower edges of which are notches 4& These notches 4 receive the cross bar 5, and in the preferred embodiment of my invention the said cross bars 5 are detachably connected to the end walls 4 of the device by screws this pro- Vision being advantageous inasinuch as it rendere it feasible to readly disassociate the disk 2, pedestal 6 and cross bar 5, as a unit, from' the remainder of the device. I

In thepreferred embodiment of the invention brace bars 3 arranged under the platform l and interposed between the end walls 4 are preferably employed, it being understood in this connection that the platform l, end walls 4 and brace bars 3 may be connected together by glue or any other means appropriate to the character of the device.

It will be apparent from the foregoing that the platform 1 and the disk 2 aford working surfaces and describe the circles B. B. shown in Figures 2 and 5. Carried by the platform 1 and the disk 2 and spaced apart in circles designated by C. C. in Figures 2 and 5 are pegs 7 The positioning of the said pegs at equal distances from each other determines the size of the stitch.

In Figure 6 I show a device for lifting wool over the pegs 7, the said device including a wooden handle 8 and an appropriately shaped shank 9.

The utilization of the pedestal 6 and the bar 5 in association with the end walls 4 and the means detachably c'onnecting the bar 5 to the walls 4 constituting an important feature of my invention inasmuch as the arrangement of the said elements entirely below the platform l and the disk 2 leaves the upper surfaces of the platform l and the disk 2 entirely clear. i

In the practical use of my device it will be understood that the concentrc sets of pegs 7 contribute to the products of a purling stitch in the article being knitted, the said pegs being fed with fabric, and loops being cast over the pegs with the device or needle shown'in Figure 6 or any other appropriate device. In this connection it will be manifest that the clear upper sides of the platform l and disk 2 contribute to free action on the part of the operator in feeding yarn or wool to the pegs and casting loops of the wool. i

Experence has demonstrated that my novel device is susceptble of being used to advantage for the knitting of woolen Caps, muffiers, wristlets, ties, hand bags, sweaters .and the like.

Having described my invention, What I claim and desire to secure by Letters- Patent, is L i 1. A knitting device compri'sing a platform With a central crcular opening therein extending throughout the thickness' thereof end walls fixed to and 'depending from the underside of the platform and having notches in their lower edges, a circular disk arranged in said opening of the platform and in the same plane as the platform and having its periphery spaced from the wall of the said opening, circular series 2. A knitting device comprising a platform With an opening therein extending throughout the thickness thereof, a disk located in said opening and arranged in the same plane as the platform and With its periphery spaced from the Wall of the opening in theplatform, a france at the underside of the platform, supporting means at the underside of the disk and detachably connected With said frame, a circular series of spaced pegs on the platform andthe disk and spaced from the opening between the platform anddsk.

3. A knitting devlce comprising a platform With an opening therein, a disk ar'anged in said opening and spaced from the Wall thereof, circular series of spaced pegs on the platform and disk and spaced from the opening between the two, and a detachable coupling between the disk and the platform entirely below the upper surfaces thereof.
