T 0- all w ham it may concern Be it known that I, BYRON L. HnArnn, a'citizen of the United States, residing at Forest Park, in-the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain; new and useful Improvements in-Hangers, of which the following is a description. 4 My invention belongs to that general class of'devices known'as hangers, and relates particularly to a hanger designed for supporting :trolley wires, cables and the like from suitable cross wires, or the equivalent. invention has among its objects the produc tionof a device of the kind describedthat is simple, convenient, durable, efficient and satisfactory for use'wherever found applicable. More particularly it has as an object the production of a device which may be readily applied or removed, and which will securely hold the wire at the desired point. The same is also designed to reduce sparking-vibration and wear on the trolley wheel and trolley wi're.- -Many other objects and advantages of the construction herein shown and described will be-obvious to those skilled in theart from the disclosure herein 'iven. r

Inasmuch as my device is particularly intended for supporting trolley wires or the like, I shall describe the same in that connection, 1 representing the trolley wire and 2 the cross wires which are arranged to carry the trolley wire above the tracks. The cooperating part 3 is provided with a projecting part 5 at one side which may, if
desired,'- extend entirely around the part forming substantially a flange, as shown'm I the figures. The same is also provided with extending prongs or parts 6- at each'sid'e which'are preferably bent as indicated at 7 and thence extend laterally as shown at 8,
or in an equivalent manner, so that the same substantially parallels the extending parts 6. Part3 is extended at its ends as at 9 and is chambered as shown at 10, thelower portion 9 being elongated so as to overlie the trolley wire for a distance. i V
The part 4 is provided with the groove 19 which, as most clearly shown in Figure 4, is formed witha substantially sharp ridge, cusp or hump13 intermediate the ends,'the groove terminating at eachend substantially fiush with the under side of the part, so that when the wire is positioned in the groove and the device secured, the under side ofthe trolley wire and-the under side of the part 4 at each end will be in alignment. In will be noted that a vertical plane drawn through the groove, cutting-both ends, would pass through the aXis-ofthe shank, and that the groove has an openingthereto leading from f one sideof the member 4: A lip 14, however is formed'so that the wire 1 is securely held in the groove. i It will be particularly noted in referring to the drawings that the parts 3 and 4 are so formed as to taper down to the wire at the topand bottom and at the sides, so that as before mentioned, the trolley wheel running in engagement with the wire, will run smoothly over the hanger.
In use the cooperating part 3 may be 7 2, and the part 4: drawn in place, as shown tirely closed in and locked in place.
in Figure 1.. As the part is drawn up, the trolley wire 1 will be crimped substantially as indicated in Figure 4. Of course, if desired, the parts 3 and 4 may be secured together with thetrolley wire in place prior to the attaching of part 3 to the cross wire, this being immaterial so far as the use of the device is concerned.
It will thus be seen that the device may be easily and quickly applied or removed,

The trolley wire may be easily renewed, as the same may be-quickly detached from the hangers and a new wire arranged in place. The hanger will not slip or slide on the cross wires and neither will the trolley wire slip or slide in the hanger. In this connection it may be mentioned that the recess or groove 12 and the inner face of the part 3 where the same comes in contact with the trolley may be roughened or otherwise constructed to slightly bite into the trolley wire and firmly grip the same. This is particularly desirable where it might be desired to splice a trolley wire at one of the hangers. Vi 'ith my device there is a reduction, if nota complete elimination, of sparking, there are no projecting parts'which will cause a hammering or striking of the trolley wheel, thereby causing injury and vibration. In case of wearing the part 4:, there is but slight danger of the same wearing to an extent where the trolley wire would be accident-alliy released, and should there be wear it is rear ily noticeable and a new part 4 may be quickly and easily installed. By reversing the device the hanger is particularly adapted for supporting cables employed for tracks arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described, or uses mentioned, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. Ina hanger of the kind described, in combination, a part arranged to engage a member to be carried, and a cooperating part for supporting the first mentioned part, andprovided with a pair of spaced flanges and a pair of hooks therebelow at each side thereof, whereby said cooperating part may 7 interengage a suit-able wire support.
2. In a hanger of the kind described, in-
combination, a part'arranged to engage a member to be carried, and a cooperating part for supporting the first mentioned part, and provided with a pair of hooks therebelow at each side thereof, the seatsof said hooks tended rearwardly and downwardly to said hooks and outwardly through said hooks at both sides.
3. In a hanger of the kind described and in combination, a part arranged with a longitudinal wire-engaging groove of a size-toreceive and closely fit the-wire to be hung, said groove havlng an entrance thereto leadmg from one side of sald part and having a sharp cusp intermediate its endsQsaidpart having a shank portion, acooperatingpart for supporting said part, said second part mounted on said shank and covering said groove to clamp said wire in place, and means on said second part for interengaging with and being rigidly supported by a single supporting wire.
