Be it known that JAMES 13. Human, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Fulton, in the county of Fulton and State of Kentucky, has invented new and useful Improvements in Shade Raisers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, comparatively inexpensive and efficient window shade bracket or support adapted for adjustment to locate the shade so as to cover either the upper or the lower portion of, the window opening to the end that the desired privacy in an apartment may be secured without interfering with the circulation of air or to the end that light may be admitted at the top of a window while excluding the same from the lower portion thereof, and to the further end that the mounting and dismounting of the shade roller or of curtains or other drapery may v be effected without the necessity of using a ladder or other means of enabling the operator to reach the top of the window casing, and with these objects in view the invention consists in a construction and com bination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in 'the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure l is a front View of the apparatus applied in the operative position to a window casing.
Figure 2 is a side view of the same.
Figure 3 is a plan view.
The device consists essentially of an extensible bar 10 comprisin the relatively adjustable members 11 and l2which, respectively carry the shade roller brackets 13 and 14 and are disposed in relatively overlapping sliding relation and are held at the desired relative adjustment by means of clamps or guides 15 to the end that the apparatus may be adapted for application to window openings of different widths. Secured to said bar and respectively to the members thereof near their outer extremities are supporting rods 16 preferably engaged by keepers 17 secured to the members Specification of Letters Patent.

of the bar and having upper extensions 18 with heads or grips 21 which serve as'handholds and also as stops for contact with the,
lower ends of the guides to limit the upward" movement of the rodsand hence prevent displacement from the guides, while arranged at the top of the casing at each side is double spring clip consisting of the front tongue 22 and the side tongue adapted when the device is adjusted to the limit of its upward movement the ends of the bar will. be engaged by said tongues and securely held in position. The springs 20, however, serve when the shade is at an in termediate adjustment as indicated in F igures 1 and 2 of the drawings, to grip the rods 16 with sufiicient force to prevent accidental dropping of the bar l0 with. its attachments while permitting an adjustment to be effected merely by exerting upward or downward pressure upon the finger holds 21.
lVhat is claimed is:
A shade roller support having a bracket bar adapted for arrangement in transverse relation to a window casing, supporting rod connected with said bar and guides attachable to a window casing for receiving and holding said rods in'their adjusted po-' sit-ions and clips attachable to the window casing at its top and consisting of front and side tongues for engagement with the terminals of said bar at the limit of its upward adjustment 7 In testimony whereof he affixes his signature.
