Application filed February 8, 1924. Serial No. 691,414.
,To` all whom t may concern:
`Be 1t known that l, STANLEY JOHN- Kriiiiiii, a citizen of the United States, and a, resident of Holyoke, in the countyr of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented a `new and Improved Combined Curtain and Shade Support, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in combined curtain and shadel supports, and has for one of its objects to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction and which may be readily and quickly attached to a window trame in a secure manner without the use oi screw 'fasteners or the like.
The above and other objects will appear more clearly from the following detailed description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, which illustrates preferred embodiments oit the inventive idea.
In the drawing- Y Figure 1 is a. perspective view of one form of the invention showing its application to a. window trame;
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 ot Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Figure 1;
Figure 5 is a section on the line 5 5 of Figure 1; and
Figure 6 is a perspective view of a slightly dizderent form of the invention.
Referring more particularly to Figures 1 to 5 inclusive, the numeral 10 indicates the base plate or body portion ot the device which is provided with a lateral flange 11 at its top adapted to lit over a projecting portion 12 of the window frame to suspend the device therefrom, it being understood that one ofthe devices is mounted at each end of the upper portion ot' the window trame. Associated with the base plate 10 is an adjustable slide 13 movable vertically between guide lugs 14 formed on an extension 15 of said base plate and having at one end a finger piece 16 which may be. gripped to facilitate the adjustment of said slide. The slide is provided with a longitudinal slot 17 therein through which extends a setv screw 18 carried by the extension 15 and having a wing nut 19 thereon for securing the sliderin various adjusted positior'is-` A resilient supporting member 2Ol in the frhi of a single length oiA wire bent intermediate its ends to provide the parallel ,prtions 21 whichextend between the slide 13 and extension A15 4and the loop-shaped cennectiiig portilon 21a of which engage-s an inwardly projecting lug 16a at the upper end of the slide and secures the portion 210i and at their lower ends are bent to provide the spring coils' 22 from" which the extremities of the wire are extended and bent to provide pivotal connections 23 with a clamping plate 24 Which may have a layer of felt or other suitable material 25 secured thereto and capable oi engaging a portion of the window frame, as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2. By reason of the resiliency of the coils 22 a. pressure is exerted upon the clamping plate which will cause the same to closely adhere to the window frame and materially aid in supporting' the device in position thereon. p
By adjusting the slide 13, `the strain in the coils 22 of the member 20 can beincreased or decreased.
The base plate 10 is also provi-ded with guide lugs 26 and a strap 27 in which is slidably mounted a shade bracket 2S held in position by a suitable set screw 29, said bracket being utilized to support a shade roller, as' indica-ted in dotted lines in Figures 1 and 4.
The base plate is also provided with straps 3() and 31 in which is slidably mounted a. curtain support 32 in the i'orm` of a single length of wire engageable in both of the str-aps, the strap 31 being yieldably held in position by a set screw 33 about which the spring 34 is coiled. The strap 30 and another strap 35 are utilized to carry another support 36 made of a single length of wire adjustable in said straps and designed for` the purpose of supporting curtain draperies.
The construction shown in Figure G is utilized for attachment to the vertical stile 37 of a Window i'rame and consists of a base plate 38 having a tlange 39 at one end engaging the outside edge of the stile and having supports 40 and 41 for carrying a shade and curtain. The plate is provided with guide lugs 42 in which is adjustably mounted a slide 43 similar in construction to the the member 2O to the said slide. y The prtions 21'ex`tend longitudinally of the slide slide 13 and between Which and the base plate is interposed a supporting member 44 similar to the member and including the coils 45 which are connected to the clamping plate 46 Which, in this instance, engages the inner vertical edge of the stile 37.
What is claimed is:
l. A device of the character described including a base plate, a slide member adjustable thereon, a resilient supporting member interposed between said base plate and slide and held in position thereby, and a clamping plate carried by said supporting member and engageable with the Window frame to hold said base plate in posit-ion thereon.
2. A device of the character described including a base plate, a slide member adjustable thereon, a. resilient supporting member interposed between said base plate and slide and held in position thereby, a clamping plate carried by said supporting member and engag'eabl'e -with the Window frame to hold said base plate in position thereon, a shade support adjustably mounted on the base plate, and a plurality of curtain supports adjustably and independently mounted on said base plate.
3. A device of the character described including a base plate capable o'fengagement with a Window frame, a slide member adjustable on said base plate, a supporting member formed of a single length of Wire having its intermediate portion interposed bet-vveen said base plate and slide member and held in position thereby, other portions of said supporting member being bent to provide coil springs, and a clamping member pivotally connected to the extremities of said Wire and engageable with a portion of the Window frame to clamp said base plate in position thereon.
