The manual shifting of the keeper plate llembodies the provision of slotted 4openings Q4 in the side walls of the casing 3 with an operating arm 25 slidably positioned in said openings and having a the plates 7 cooperating with the marks 9 determining the relative positions of the diskk slots. When the disks aire so positioned, as to aline the notches 10 with the angle feet 15,the operating arm 25 is shifted by grip ping the head 26 to move the latch plate lll against the tension ofthe spring 18, the angle feet l5 being received in the disk notches 10 and causing-the plate ll to be moved to a position whereby the latch hook 2l is capale of being freed from the plate ll. 'With the disknotches alined with the feet 15, and with the trunk lid 2 in open position, the lid may be automatically moved to a closed andlocked position by the beveled end ofthe keeper' hook 2l engaging the adjacent wall of the opening 23 to shift the plate against the spring tension thereon, but in opening the lock, it is necessary to shift the keeper plate by the operating arm 25,`after having alined the disknotches l0 with the keeper feet l5.
While thereis herein shown and described the preferred form of the invention7 it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. Y f

A permutation lock of thetype described comprising upper and lower .body members, permutation lock mechanism including a latchI hook carried by the .uppermemben a sliding latch plateV carried by the lower member, arms depending from said plate adjacent one longitudinal edge thereof and havingthe lower ends thereof bent inwardly to formalined angle feet, an arm depend* ing from one end of said plate, shaftsjour'- naled transversely of the lower member and alined with said feet, a disk fixed to each shaft and having a peripheral notch therein,
permutation plates carried by said shafts eX- teriorly of the lower member and adapted to be operated to canse the disk notches to regis-` ter with the angle feet whereby the sliding latch plate may be'moved to free the latch hook from the latch plate, an arm depending from the lower memberadjacent the end arm of the latch plate, a compression spring interposed between the two last named arms for holding the sliding latch plate at its limit of movement in one direction, and a rod at tached to the latch plate slidably extending through the lower member foiwshifting the latch plate against the spring tension thereon to disengage the side arms from thedisks. ln testimony whereof l aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
