Be it: known thatI-,'Pi-1UL DonozYNsKI,-a
` 'citizen' of Ukraine, residing at 'Vinnipeg, in
designed for use as a boxer-trunk` lock.
The primar i object of t-he invention resides inthe provision of a permutation Ylock wherein afV plurality of independently operated notched disks are adapted to be rotat-ivcly positioned for alining the-disk notches to permitthe sliding movement of a latch keeper forfreeing a'latch therefrom. l `iik-further objectot the invention has ret'- erence to a permutation lock especially de-l signed for vboxes or trunks wherein a latch keeper is slidabl-y supported bythe base portionjol"` atrunk and having depending arms associated with permutation controlled notched disks, the disks and arms cooperat. ing to permit. sliding movement of the latch keeper whereby` a latch hook carried by the tru uk cover Ymay be disengaged therefrom.
Viththe above general objects in View and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, theinvention consists in the novel form, combination andV arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which like reference characters indicate corresponding parts y. throughout the several views.
ln the drawings, Figure 1 is a fragmentary front eleva'- tional view of a portion of a box or trunk with the present type of permutation lock operatively arranged therein, Figure 2 is a. longitudinal sectional View takenron line II-II of'Figure 1, Figure is a vertical longitudinal sec-l tional Vview showingthepermutation controlled notched disks and the latch keeper moved to its locked position, Y

The permutation lockmechanismincludes a plurality of shafts ournaled transversely l of the casing, each shaft having'a disk 6I secured thereto Withinthe casingy 3 Whilethe outer projectingend--of each shaftV carries aV graduated plate 7 Vrotatable therewithwhile the shaftis operatedby the terminal knob 8,

For purposes presently vto appear, each disk-6 has a peripheral'notoh lOfQrmed therein. .le y f :Atlatch hook V.keeper of. the typey more clearly shown in Figures 3, 4, and 7 is slid# ably disposed within the casing 3 and em bodies an elongated plate 11 having pairs oit' elongated slots 12 adjacent each end thereof through which slots retaining screws 13 are passed or securing the. sliding' keeper platel in Figure 3 and 4. i Depending arms 14' carfl wall of the casing 3 as clearly? shown invr Figures 2, 3, ,and 6, the spring tending toV torce the keeper plate ll1 in onedirection.
As shown in Figures 3', t', and 5,@a. plateV 95 1l tothe upper wall of the casing Sas'shown v head 26 formanipulation thereof, the oper-..
20 is secured to the lower face of the upper casing 4; and carries a latch hook 2l depending through an opening 22 in the upper wall of the casing 3, and also through the keeper o eninv' 23 in the latch kee )er )late ll, the
P e l l Y spring 18 moving the plate ll to its limit in one direction to cause one wall of the opening` 23 to overlie the hooked end ofthe latch 2l as shown in `Figure 3. The manual shifting of the keeper plate llembodies the provision of slotted 4openings Q4 in the side walls of the casing 3 with an operating arm 25 slidably positioned in said openings and having a the plates 7 cooperating with the marks 9 determining the relative positions of the diskk slots. When the disks aire so positioned, as to aline the notches 10 with the angle feet 15,the operating arm 25 is shifted by grip ping the head 26 to move the latch plate lll against the tension ofthe spring 18, the angle feet l5 being received in the disk notches 10 and causing-the plate ll to be moved to a position whereby the latch hook 2l is capale of being freed from the plate ll. 'With the disknotches alined with the feet 15, and with the trunk lid 2 in open position, the lid may be automatically moved to a closed andlocked position by the beveled end ofthe keeper' hook 2l engaging the adjacent wall of the opening 23 to shift the plate against the spring tension thereon, but in opening the lock, it is necessary to shift the keeper plate by the operating arm 25,`after having alined the disknotches l0 with the keeper feet l5.
While thereis herein shown and described the preferred form of the invention7 it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. Y f
l that is claimed as new is:
A permutation lock of thetype described comprising upper and lower .body members, permutation lock mechanism including a latchI hook carried by the .uppermemben a sliding latch plateV carried by the lower member, arms depending from said plate adjacent one longitudinal edge thereof and havingthe lower ends thereof bent inwardly to formalined angle feet, an arm depend* ing from one end of said plate, shaftsjour'- naled transversely of the lower member and alined with said feet, a disk fixed to each shaft and having a peripheral notch therein,
permutation plates carried by said shafts eX- teriorly of the lower member and adapted to be operated to canse the disk notches to regis-` ter with the angle feet whereby the sliding latch plate may be'moved to free the latch hook from the latch plate, an arm depending from the lower memberadjacent the end arm of the latch plate, a compression spring interposed between the two last named arms for holding the sliding latch plate at its limit of movement in one direction, and a rod at tached to the latch plate slidably extending through the lower member foiwshifting the latch plate against the spring tension thereon to disengage the side arms from thedisks. ln testimony whereof l aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
