ALEXANDER Gr'll'EN'].".[IN}31R, OF WALSH, ALBERTA, CANADA.
PLOWSHARE.
' i Application filed July 28,
To all wlw/m it may concern.'
Be it known that l, ALEXANDER GUENTH- Nrn, of the village of `Walsh, in the Province of Alberta, Canada, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Plowshares, ci which the following is a speciiication.
My invention relates to improvements in plowshares and the object ot the invention is to devise means whereby the share and share laiidside may he detachably connected to the 'frogvformed integral with the mold board and landside plate also i'orined inte'- g'ral with the mold board and it consists essentially o1 the following arrangement and construction oi parts as hereinafter more particularly explained.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view ol? a plowshare constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view ot the part shown in Fig'. l tilted up so as to exhibit the under side and showing` the share and share landside in a `partially detached position.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through the lower portion of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a plan section on line @1 -y, Fic:
In the drawings like characters ot rererence indicate the corresponding parts in each ligure.
1 indicates the landside ora plowshare 'from which the mold board 2 extends. 8 indicates a 'frog which is formed integral with the landside 1 and mold hoard The landsi'de 1 is provided with a landside plate 1X the forward -portion of which extends beneath the landside 1. The forward end oi" the landside 1 is in angular form.
1o is a dove-tailed groove which extends longitudinally or' the frog 3 and through the portion of the landside 1 adjacent to the 'trol-0;. 4X indicates the share provided with a share-point el. All is a dove-tailed rib e1:- tending longitiulinally o1 the share aix and slidably fitting* within the groove 1. lo indicates a share landside 'formed integral with the share-point d and corresponds substantially in shape vto the forward portion et the landside 1. share landside 4l is provided with a longitudinal slot 12 terminating in a triangular oriiice 113. The landside plate 1x is provided with a longitudinal slot 11 which is in longitudinal alignment with the slot 4t2.
5 .indicates a locking member pivotally The rearward end of 'the Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Mar. 21, 1922.
1919. serial N o. massa mounted in the slot 11 by a cross pin 52. The forward end o'r the locking member 5 is provided with a triangular head 53 adapted to t the triangular orifice 4:3 formed in the share landside. 12 is a recess formed .in the landside 1 and is provided with a groove extension 13 in vertical alignment with the slot 11. 1 4 is an orifice which eX- tends Jfrom. the recess 12. 6 is a spiral spring which lits within the orifice 1'? and bears at its opposite end against the opposing` face of the triangular headi 53 so as to hold the locking member 5 in the horizontal position.
l/Vhen itis desired to detach the share and share landside from the remaining portion oit' the plowshare, all that it is necessary to do is to turn the plowshare on its side and press an instrument against the triangular head 53v of the locking member 5 so as to force it inward into the recess 12 against the pressure of the spring 6( Whe-n this is done the share landside may be grasped and drawn together with the share 4X longitudinally of the frog 8 to carry the rib 11 out of engagement with the groove 1o thereby detaching the share LlX from the frog llt will. also be noted that in drawing, the share as it moves longitudinally of the frog` does not move in a direction directly at right angles to the face of the landside 1, but in an inclined direction so that under normal conditions when the share and share landside are locked by the locking member 5,
any tendency to move in this directionV causes the triangular head 53 to engage the orifice la and thereby prevent the movement of the share to disengage.
From this description it will be seen that l have devised a very simple device whereby the share and share landside may be detachably connected to the frog and landside formed integral therewith and locked in position in such away that the parts may be easily unlocked and detached for thepurpose oi renewal.
That l claim as my invention is:
ln a plowshare, the combination with the mold board, landside and frog formed integral and having a recess formed in the lower tace of the landside ot a landside plate secured to the lower face 01"' the landside and having an open ended slot in its forward endv` a share and share landside formed integral and adapted to extend beneath the aforesaid landside in alignment with the landside plate n and having a slofJ in longitudinal alignn'ien:J with tlie Slot of the landside plate and in Vertical alignmentv with the rece-ss of the landside and terminating in a triangular orifice, al locking bar pivoted intermediately l ol: its length in the slot of the landside plate and provided lwith a triangular head litting the aforesaid triangular orifice, a spring located Within the frog and recess of the landside and bearing against the triangi1- 10 lai head of the locking bar, and a tongue and groove Connection between the frog and share extending longitudinally thereof.
