A. M. MILLER. ATTAOHMENTFOR FLOWS.
No. 465,187. Patented Dec. 15,1891.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AMANUEL M. MILLER, OF FAIRFIELD, TEXAS.
-ATTA CHMENT FOR PLOWS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 465,187, dated December 15, 1891.
Application filed May 26, 1891.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AMANUEL M. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fairfield, in the county of Freestone and State of Texas, haveinvented a new and useful Attachment for Plows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to plows; and it has for its object to provide a device whereby the land-bar, which is connected pivotally with the plow stock or standard, may be adjusted vertically at its rear end, an adjusting-screw being provided, which also acts as a brace, and said screw being arranged to work in slotted plates secured to the rear end of the plow-beam by means of a single bolt, which also serves for the attachment of a brace-rod, the opposite end of which is connected with the standard.
The invention consists in the improved construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of a plow equipped with my improvement. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation. Fig. 3 is a sectional detail view taken on the line 3 3 in Fig. 1.
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all the figures. i
1 designates a plow-beam of ordinary construction, to which the standard 2, which is bifurcated at its upper end, is secured in the usual manner by means of transverse bolts 3 3 above and below the beam. The land-bar or slide 4 is connected pivotally by means of a pin or bolt 5 with the standard 2 near the lower end of the latter, and the said slide or land bar is provided near its rear end with a lug 6, which is connected pivotally with the lower end of a screw-threaded rod or bar 7. To the rear end of the plow-beam are secured angle-plates 8 8, having slots 9 for the recep- Serial No. 394,128. (No model.)
tion of the upper end of the screw-threaded rod 7, which latter is provided above'and below the said slotted angle-plates with nuts 10, by means of which it may be held securely in any position to which it may be adjusted. It will be readily seen that by adjusting the said nuts upon the screw-threaded rod the heel end of the land-bar or slide-bar 4 may be raised or lowered, thus causing the plow to run deep or shallow, as may be desired. The slot-s 9 in'the angle-plates 8 will furnish'ample accommodation for the screw-threaded rod 7 in any position to which it may be adjusted.
11 designates a brace, one end of which is connected with the standard and the other end of which is mounted upon the bolt 12, which latter also serves to secure the angleplates 8 upon the rear endof the plow-beam. By this construction great strength and durability, as well as facility of adjustment, are attained.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is The combination of the plowbeam, the standard and its shovel, the pivoted slide or land bar connected to the heel of the shovel, the screw-threaded rod connected pivotally with the latter, the angle-plates located at the upper and under sides of the beam at the rear ends of the latter, having slots at their rear edges, a vertical bolt passed through the beam and plates, the brace mounted upon said bolt and connected with the standard, and the nuts mounted upon the screw-threaded rod above and below the angle-plates, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
AMANUEL M. MILLER.
