CHARLES B. BROWN, OF LEWISTON, MAINE, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND ALVIN WOODMAN, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROLLER-CLEARERS FOR SPINNING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,031, dated July 22, 1873; application filed April. 5, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES B. BROWN, of Lewiston, in the county of Androscoggin and State of Maine, have invented a new and use-- ful Improvement in Scavenger-Rolls for Spinnin g-Frames, of which the following is a specication:
My invention pertains to au improvement in the construction of clearer-rolls of spinningframes; and it consists in providing a covered roll `with an enlargement, or, in other words, in reducing its diameter uniformly at every point except the center. structed, only the enlarged portion will come in actual contact with the rolls of the spinning-frames.
In the drawing, Figure l represents a side view of the roll, and Fig. 2 a transverse section.

If the roll were of uniform diameter it would rest in contact with the rolls of the spinningframe throughout its entire length. But it is desirable to run the clearer out of contact with the spinning-rolls, since it will catch the iiyin gs or roving quicker; and they may be more readily removed from the reduced portion of the roll; and yet the cheapest method of imparting rotary motion to it is by means of the enlargement b.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Batent, is-
The covered clearer-roll, provided with an enlargement, b, as and for the purpose specified.
