Description
A. MAINKA.
BRACE- APPLICATION mzo 050.14. r920.
1,40 ,21 Patented Feb. 23, 1922.
ARTHUR MAIN'KA, OF
sEEMi'IHL, NEAR EICKFIER, GERMANY.
BRACE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 28, 1922.
Application filed December 14, 1920. Serial No. 430,792.
To alZ w lmm it may concern Be it known that I ARTHUR MAINKA, a citizen of the German Republic, residing at Seemiihl, near Eickfier, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Braces, or which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to braces the construction of which is improved in such a manner that for the parts which are usually made of India-rubber and which are inserted between the shoulder straps and the strips to be attached to the trousers, metal springs are substituted. The India-rubber of the elastic parts of the braces is not only very expensive but it wears'rapidly so that it has to be renewed frequently. It has already been proposed to use metal springs as elastic connecting pieces between the shoulder straps and the strips to be attached to the trousers but the springs were either free or merely covered by being spun round with thread.
According to this invention the springs are enclosed in casings so that they are not only well preserved but-when they should break-are prevented from damaging the clothing of the person who wears the braces.
In order that the invention may be clearly understood, the same will be hereinafter described with reference to the example of construction shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein the improved elastic connection between the shoulder straps and the strips to be attached to the trousers is shown partly in section.
The elastic connecting piece consists of a curved bar 7 and of a cylindrical casing -11. The curved bar 7 is inserted in the eye 8 formed at the lower end of the shoulder strap 9 and made either in one piece with said strap 9 or separately. casing 4 is open at the top bottom plate 10 a hole 11. A spiral spring 6 is enclosed in said casing 4. The strip 1 to be attached to the trousers by button holes 1 at its ends is placed over a pulley 2 which is revolubly mounted upon an axle 12 fixed in bearings which form parts of the rod 3 forked at its lower end and projecting through the central hole 11 of the bottom plate 10 of the cylindrical casing The rod 3 traverses the spiral spring 6 and terminutes at the upper end in a disc 5 which rests upon the spiral spring 6. The disc 5 is adapted to slide up and down in the cylindrical casing 4 and serves to close said casing at the upper end.
I claim Improved braces comprising in combination wi 'h the shoulder straps and the strips to be attached to the trousers. and elastic connecting piece for said parts consisting of a curved bar at the upper end inserted in the end of the corresponding shoulder strap, a cylindrical casing downwardly projecting from said curved bar open at the top and having a central hole in its bottom plate, a spiral spring in said cylindrical casing a rod in said cylindrical casing projecting through said hole in the bottom plate. a disc at the upper end of said rod resting upon the said spiral spring, and a pulley revo lubly mounted in the lower end of said rod and carrying the strip to be attached to the trousers.
In testimony whereof I a'l'lix my in presence of two witnesses.
ARTHUR MAINKA.
