Description

NOV-19, 1929A-4 c. HlsEK f 1,736,344
HUSKING MITTEN THUMB PROTECTOR Filed octf. 192s Inventor y ttorng' Patented Nov. 19, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HTUSKING-MITTEN THUMB PROTECTOR Application filed October 6, 1928.
The present invention relates to a protector for the thumb of a husking mitten and has for its prime object to provide a member of this nature formed of elastic material and having means whereby the same may be slipped over the thumb of a husking mitten and held in place by an extension pinned to the mitten.
A still further very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of this nature which is exceedingly simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, strong and durable, thoroughly efficient and reliable in use, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other ob jects in view as will appear as. the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing: l
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a husking mitten with my attachment on the thumb thereof,
Figure 2 is a plan view of the attachment before the same is folded, and
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the safety pin used. l
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the letter A denotes a sheet of elastic material such as rubber so as to provide a relatively broad portion 5 and a relatively narrow extension 6 at one end of the relatively broad portion 5 and to one side of the center thereof.
An elastic tab or sheet of material 7 is vulcanized to the central portion of the strip or relatively wide portion 5. A non-elastic sheet of material 8 is vulcanized to the extension 6 on the opposite side from the sheet 7 The side edge portions of the relatively broad portion 5 of the sheet A are vulcanized together, as designated by 9X in Figure 1, to form a tubular structure in which the thumb 10 of a husking mitten 1l is received.
The extension 6 and the sheet 8 thereon Serial No. 310,796.
are provided with openings 12 so that a safety pin P may be passed therethrough and engaged with the mitten 11 to hold the tubular relatively wide portion 5 over the thumb l() of the mitten. y13:55
This pin P is preferably formed from a single strand of wire including a straight portion 15 having a lateral extension 16 at one end turned over upon itself a short distance as at 17 and then extended as at 1&60 while the other end of the straight body portion 15 terminates in a coil 19 which in turn merges into a pin portion 20.
A guard 21 is disposed over the coil portion 19. lt is thought that the constructiongf' utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof. Y
The present embodiment of the inventionllm has been disclosed in considerable detail merely forthe purposes of exemplication since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage eunmerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above Cle-e175 scription.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit? or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. A thumb protector for husking mittens" including a sheet of elastic material having a tubular like portion with a reinforcement sheet therein and a tab like extension with a non-elastic reinforcement sheet thereon, said tab and said non-elastic sheet being provided with openings, and a pin passing through the opening so that the tab may be pinned to a mitten while the tubular portion is over the thumb thereof.
2. A thumb protector for husking mittens including a sheet of elastic material having a tubular like portion with a reinforcement sheet therein and a tab like extension with a non-elastic reinforcement sheet thereon, said tab and said non-elastic sheet being provided' '100 with openings, and a pin passing through the opening so that the tab may be pinned to a mitten While the tubular portion is over the thumb thereof, the reinforcement piece of the tubular portion being of elastic material.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature.
CHARLES HISEK.
