LOUIS SCHNEIDER, OF CLINTON, MISSOURI.
sLnEvE CONSTRUCTION.
' Specification of Letters Patent. 4
Patented la. 27,1920.
Application filed May 29, 1919. Serial No. 300,508.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS SCHNEIDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clinton, in the county of Henry and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sleeve Construction, of which the following is a specification.
The invention has for an object to provide an improved device for holding the sleeves of garments properly extended upon the arm of a wearer. It is a particular aim to provide a device of this kind which may be attached to coats, overcoats, and the like, without requiring alterations in the garment, being useful upon ordinary coats to hold the sleeves extended when putting on an overcoat, as well as insuring proper protection to the wrists of the wearer in wintry weather. It is a further aim to give a device of this kind which will not cause an unsightly distortion of the sleeve or present any obtrusive elements which would detract from the neat appearance of a garment.
Additional objects, advantages, and features of the invention reside in the form, combination and relation of parts as hereinafter set forth and shown in the drawings, wherein,
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of the outer part of a sleeve upon which my invention is incorporated,
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the attaching element,
Fig. 8 is a plan view of the pattern for the finger-loop.
There is illustrated a sleeve 10, which may be of any usual pattern and make, and in the present instance represents the sleeve of a blouse or under-coat, although the device is also adaptable to use upon the sleeves of overcoats and other garments. Secured upon the inner side of this sleeve, there is a pocket patch 11, substantially triangular in form, with its base parallel to the outer edge of the cuff of the sleeve, while its apex is presented inwardly at a point approximately in line with the thumb of the wearer, the triangle upon which the pattern for the patch is cut being approximately an equilateral one. The lateral edges 12 of the patch are stitched to the sleeve in a suitable manner, while the bottom or base edge 13 may be suitably hemmed. Medially of the patch close to its base edge, there is formed a circular opening 14 suitably hemmed, adapted to receive the thumb of a wearer of the garment upon which the patch is secured. Also secured upon the lower edge portion of the patch, there is a loop 15, of a suitable material which may be either engaged under the thumb, or between certain of the digits of the hand in case the thumb is inserted through the opening 14.
The loop 15 is preferably formed from a rectangular strip of material cut away on one side to form an intermediate narrow, portion 16, as shown in Fig. 3, with broadened base portions 17 enlarged in one di-.
rection from the line of the narrow portion 16.
upon the wrists, and if the thumb is inserted through the opening 14:, the sleeve will be held close down upon the upper side of the wrist. When the loop 15 is not required, it may be pressed upwardly into the space between the patch 11 and the sleeve, which is in effect a pocket. The strap 16 is preferably of a length greater'than the distance between the points at which the strap is attached to the pocket, and the patch 11 is of sufiicient extent to allow the loop to be extended inwardly and lie in looped form substantially in the shape of the letter U, when pressed into the pocket. In this form, the loop will not tend to fall out of the pocket, by reason of its resistance to compression.
It will be seen that the appliance is adapted to be constructed very cheaply, with a minimum of labor or expense in other ways, and is adapted to perform the functions for which it is designed in a sat isfactory manner.
2. The combination with a sleeve of a pocket patch secured at its inner edge to form a pocket opening toward the outer end of the sleeve, said patch'having an opening r therein adjacent the outer edge for the reception of a finger of the wearer, and a loop element attached Within the pocket patch, adapted to be engaged over the finger of
