Description

HANGING HAT RACK Filed May 19, 1959 INVENTORS IVAN E. STULL \HNCENT d, CASSIDY 2,994,436 HANGING HAT RACK Ivan E. Stull, 121 W. 20th 867., Pueblo, 13010., and Vincent J. Cassidy, 1706 13th St, R0. Box 8%, Greeley, Colo. Filed May 19, 1959, Ser. No. 814,276 1 Claim. (Cl. 211-30) Our invention relates to new and useful improvements in a hanging hat rack for the support and protection of a mans hat while traveling in an automobile. The purpose of our invention is to provide a portable hanging hat rack to hold a mans hat and provide means of hanging a hat up out of the way and to protect a mans hat in an automobile while not wearing it.
The object of our invention is to provide a portable hanging hat rack so that a person can insert a mans hat into the rack and hang on a hook provided in most automobiles, as some men do not Wear their hats while driving in an automobile and therefore they generally lay their hats on the seat cushion or on the rear window ledge and they are apt to become soiled or crushed.
A further object of our invention is to produce a device as indicated which is of simple, strong, durable and inexpensive construction.
Other features and advantages of our invention will appear from the description taken in connection with the drawing, wherein:
FIGURE 1 is an elevational view looking toward the outer or extended side of the rack.
FIGURE 2 is a side elevational view of the rack.
Referring now to the drawing wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts of our invention, the rack includes a single length of wire or other suitable material formed into loop 10 to hang the rack on a hook and providing angularly related sections secured by portions 11 and 12 to horizontally disposed sections 13 and 14 which are respectively connected inwardly and secured to sections 15. Sections 15 being twisted together are horizontally disposed and constitute extensions of sections 16 and 17 which are secured to sections 18 and 19. Sections 18 and 19 are vertically disposed and secured to sections 20. Sections 20 being twisted together are vertically disposed and secured to horizontal sections 21 and 2,994,436 Patented Aug. 1, 1961 22 which are each extended to form a quarter circle terminating at sections 23 and 24 where vertically disposed sections 25 and 26 are secured. Loops 27 and 28 are formed on the upper ends of sections 25 and 26 respectively.
The torsion of sections 13 and 14 is utilized as a spring to hold loops 27 and 28 against the brim of the hat and bear a slight pressure to hold the hat secure in the rack against sections 10 to 1-1 and 10 to 12. Sections 16 and 17 to sections 2t} provide a convenient handle to hold the rack while inserting a mans hat in the rack.
It will be understood that modifications within the scope of the appended claim may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of our invention.
What we claim is:
A portable hanging hat rack comprising a single length of wire or other suitable material, and provided with a shaped loop presenting an angularly related first pair of sections, a first pair of horizontally and inwardly disposed sections secured at one of their ends to opposite ends of said first pair of sections, a second pair of horizontally disposed sections twisted together and secured at one of their ends to opposite ends of said first pair of horizontally disposed sections, a first pair of vertically disposed sections secured at one of their ends to opposite ends of said second pair of horizontally disposed sections, a second pair of vertically disposed sections twisted together and secured at one of their ends to opposite ends of said first pair of vertically disposed sections, a third pair of horizontally disposed sections secured at one of their ends to opposite ends of said'second pair of vertically disposed sections and each section being formed into a quarter circle from a horizontal to a vertically disposed position, a third pair of vertically disposed sections secured at one of their ends to opposite ends of last named pair of sections and a pair of loops on the opposite ends of said third pair of vertically disposed sections.
