Description
Nov. 21, I933. R. E. HUTCHINSON 1,936,021
GOLF BAG Filed Dec. 12. 1932 Inventor 9 By mm 4 Home y Patented Nov. 21, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GOLF BAG Redwood Falls, Minn.
Application December 12, 1932 Serial No. 646,890
1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in golf bags, and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a golf bag having a handle 5 thereon of such construction and arrangement as to assure comfort to the hand at all times, the handle being substantially horizontally disposed and supporting the bag in an inclined position.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a golf bag which is equipped with an adjustable carrying handle and shoulder strap, together with common means for adjustably connecting said handle and shoulder strap, at one end, to the bag.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a golf bag of the character described which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, reliable in use, attractive in appearance, and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a golf bag constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a perspective View thereof, showing the handle and shoulder straps disconnected at one end.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the reference numeral 1 designates a golf bag of conventional construction. The reference numeral 2 designates a handle which is mounted on the upper portion of the bag 1, one end of the handle 2 being connected to the bag, as at 3. At its other end, the handle 2 is formed to provide a comparatively long, angularly extending portion 4 to the free end of which a strap 5, having a series of eyes therein, is pivotally connected, as at 6.
The strap 5 extends slidably under a loop '7 which is mounted transversely on the bag 1. A
It will thus be seen that a carrying handle for the bag has been provided wherein the gripping portion of said handle will extend substantially horizontally while supporting the bag at an inclination. The horizontal arrangement of the handle will prevent bunching or cramping of the fingers, such as usually occurs when the handle extends in parallelism with the bag.
Further, it will be seen that the angularity of the handle 2 with respect to the bag may be adjusted as desired through the medium of the strap 5 and buckle 8.
The reference numeral 9 designates a shoulder strap having an end portion 10 which is adapted to be adjustably connected to the bag 1 through the medium of the buckle 8. It will thus be seen that the buckle 8 constitutes common means for 'adjustably connecting the handle 2 and the shoulder strap 9 to the bag. The other end of the shoulder strap 9 is secured, as at 11, to the top of the bag.
It is believed that the many advantages of a golf bag constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
In a golf bag, a rigid L-shaped handle pivotally mounted at its longer end to the bag, a loop mounted on the bag and spaced from the point of connection of the longer end of the handle, a buckle on said bag, a flexible strap on the other end of the handle and extending through said loop and adjustably connected with the buckle for maintaining the longer portion of the L- shaped handle substantially parallel to the ground when carrying said bag.
RALPH E. HUTCHINSON.
