IMPROVEMENT IN DRIP-CUPS FOR CANDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,755, dated July 15, 1873; application filed I May 19, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, D. M. AYER, of Lawrence, county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Candlesticks, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention relates to an improvement in drip attachments for candlesticks; and it consists in a cup-shaped reservoir provided with suitable holding springs for grasping the side of the candle, so as to retain the reservoir in any desired position, as will be more fully described hereafter.
The accompanying drawing represents my invention.
1 represents an ordinary candlestick, the socket 2 being somewhat shorter than usual, and without the dishing rim around the top. Slipped over the candle 3 is a cup-shaped reservoir, 4, made of any suitable material or shape, and which is provided with two or more suitable springs, 5, which grasp the sides of the candle and hold the reservoir in any desired position, allowing it to be moved freely up and down; and, when the candle is removed, these springs will clasp the socket in the same manner and bind the reservoir to the candlestick. 7
Should the tallow, wax, or other material of which the candle is made flow from the top, it will at once be caught in the reservoir, and
prevented from falling on the floor or clothes
