To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD RAY TOMP- xrris, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, inthe county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in lVindow-Cooling'BoXes, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in Window cooling boxes.
Window cooling boxes of the ordinary kind are adapted to project outwardly from window openings and present rather an unsightly appearance exteriorly ofthe building and permit the food contained therein to become frozen in cold weather and unfit for consumption.
It is one of the objects of the present invention to overcome the before mentioned objectionable features and provide a window cooling box which is positioned substantially entirely within the house in a position to permit the easy control of the temperature within the box so that in very cold weather the liability of the food freezing is eliminated.
A further object of the invention is to provide a window cooling box having means for excluding dust and other foreign matter from entering the box and contaminating the food contained therein.
A further object of the invention is to provide a window cooling box having a re movable cloth screen which may be easily removed and washed when desired without removing the box from the window openm TA. further object of the invention is to provide a window cooling box which will automatically fit window openings of various widths and will be firmly maintainedin the window opening without the use of nails or screws.
A further object of the invention is to provide a window cooling box which is of simple construction, is strong and durable and is well adapted for the purpose described.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the improved window box and its parts and combinations as set forth in the claim, and all equivalents thereof.

In the accompanying drawing, in which the same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the views:

Figure 2 is a vertical sectional perspective view thereof; and
Figure 3 is a sectional detail view of the closure means for the cooling box.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 5 indicates a window frame which may be of any ordinary form and comprises grooved side jambs or portions 6, in which the window sash 7 slides, and the sill 8. The improved cooling box 9 is of rectangular shape and is formed with a front or window board 10 of rectangular outline which is provided with a central cooling opening 11. The said board is adapted to fit within the vertical plane of the window sash 7 with the lower edge portion of the board overlapping outwardly the outer edge portion of the sill S to hold the box in position. The upper edge portion 10 of the board 10 is beveled to correspond with the lower beveled edge portion of the sash and is engaged by it to form a tightclosure. To permit the board to fit windows which vary in width, the opposite ends of the board are provided with extension ends 12 preferably formed of sheet metal, which telescope over the ends of the board and are provided with curved springs 13 which yieldingly hold them in their outer position. Said extension ends permit the board to be easily inserted in the grooves of the jambs 6 and form a tight connection therewith. The top, bottom and end boards 14% of the box are joined to the front board 10 in offset relation, as indicated in dotted lines in Figure 1, to permit the board to overlap the sill and the extension ends to telescope over the ends of the board. The rear portion of the box is closed by a door 15 to permit access to the interior thereof.
The front or outer portion of the board 10 above the opening 11 is provided with an inclined projecting ledge 16 to protect the opening 11, and said opening is enclosed within the confines of a shutter frame 17 in which a plurality of shutters 18 are pivotally mounted. Said shutter frame and shutters are of ordinary construction and the shutters are controlled to open or close the opening 11 in the front board by a handle 19 which extends through a slot 20 in the said board 10.
