I WINDOW PROVISION-RECEPTACLE.
Be it known that I, WILLIAM P. SELLnRs, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Battle Creek, Calhoun county, State ofMichigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window Provisionv Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.
I ment to a window although certain features are desirable for use in other relations.
The main objects of this invention are: First, to provide an improved provision chamber or receptacle adapted to be atta hed to a window which has adjustable securing means so that it may be fitted to windows of different widths. Second, to provide aninr proved structure of the class described in which the articles placed therein are con-- veniently accessible. Third, to provide a structure of the class described which is simple in structure, has effective ventilation, and, at the same time the articles placed therein are eliectively protected.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means desc ibed in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.-
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved provision chamber or receptacle, it being shown attached to a window, parts of a window casing being illustrated in conventional form. Fig. 2 is a front perspective thereof removed from the window. Fig. 3 is a vertical section, taken on a line corresponding to line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4: is a horizontal section, taken on a line corresponding to line H of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a vertical longitudinal section, taken on a line corresponding to line 5-5 of Fig. 3. Fig. 6 is a transverse section, taken on a line corresponding to line 6-6 of Fig. 5, the section bein through the compartment which is acvcessi le from the outside of the window.

Fig. 8 is an enlargedperspective showing the means for securing one of the window stop-engaging members 4:. Fig. 10 is a detail perspective of one of the fillermembers for filling in the space between the ends of the provision chamber or casing and the window casing.
In the drawing, similar referencecharacters refer to similar parts throughout'the several views, and the sectional views aretaken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, the casing or provision chamber is adapted to rest on a window-sill, as 2, and is secured in position by means of the stop-engaging members 3 and 4. The stop-engaging members 3 are adapted to telescope into the casing and are provided with longitudinal slots 5 through which the bolts 6 are arranged, the bolts being provided with nuts 7 for securing the stop-engaging members adjustably in position. The nuts 7 are preferably arranged on the inside of the casing, as appears in Fig. 8.
The members 3 are preferably inclined outwardly so that water falling thereon wiil run outwardly instead of running into the casing. The members 3 are also preferably provided with brads 34 to engage the window casing. The stop-engaging members 4; are provided with longitudinal slots 8 throu h which the screws 9 are'arranged, see F igs. 2 and 9, the stop-engaging members bein preferably in the form of metal strips an being arranged on the front edge of the bottom 10 of the casing. The members 3 and 4 are adapted to engage the outer window stops 11, see Figs. 1 and 4. This efiectively securesthe provision casing to the window, and the nuts 7 being arranged on the inside of the casing, can be adjusted only from the inside. The bottom is preferably provided with rests 35 to which the brads 34 are secured.
'The door 12 is pivoted at its upper edge so as to swing outwardly in opening, it bedow is down, as the bot om window closes down in front of the door. The upper end of the door is preferably arranged on the inside of the filler strip 13 of the casing, so that any water dripping down will run down on the outside of the door rather than drip into the casing.
The hinge for the door preferably consists of the loop-like strap 14 which engages the pivots 15 by allowing the door to be swung up and slid horizontally into the casing. Stops, as 16, are provided for the bottom of the door.
The casing is preferably provided with suitable shelves, as 17. 1 also preferably provide adjustable fillers to fill in the space between the ends of the provision chamber or casing and the window casing. These are preferably made up of telescoping sections 18 and 19, the top and bottom edges 20 of the section 19 being folded over the edges of the section 18, so that they are slidably connected. The outer ends of sections 18 and 19 are preferably flanged, as at 21 and 22, respectively, the flange 21 being provided with key-hole slots 23 adapted to engage the screws 24 on the ends of the provision chamber. The fiange 22 is adapted to fit between the window stops 11, as clearly appears in Fig; 4:. This filler is arranged between the stop-engaging members 3 and 4. When these fillers are employed, the window can be raised to the top of the casing to permit the opening of the door without admitting the outside air to the room.
I preferably rovide the casing with a partition 25, which is arranged transversely to divide the chamber into compartments, one of the compartments being provided with a door, as 26, so that articles can be placed in the receptacle from the outside. This is a great convenience, as it allows a deliveryman to-place articles into the provision receptacle and the same are also accessible from the inside.
The roof or top is preferably made up of an inner wall 27 and an outer wall 28, the outer wall being formed of sheet metal and having downturned flanges 29 at its edges to embrace the edges of the inner wall, the inner wall being provided with ventilating openings 30 at its upper and lower edges,- see Fig. 7. The inner wall is provided with ventilating openings 31, while the bottom is provided with a ventilating opening 32. The openings 31 and 32 are covered with screens, as 33. This affords effective ventilation, and also secures a circulation through the roof, which assists in keeping the chamber cool.
My improved provision chamber or receptacle is readily attached and secured in place, and is very convenient in use. It is effectively ventilated so that, where desired, articles can be placed therein to cool, as any steam, odors or the like, readily escape, the
arrangement of the top and the ventilating openings thereof securlng an effective draft.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. The combination with a casing adapted to rest on a window-sill, of window stopengaging members having longitudinal slots therein, the upper members being adapted to telescope into said casing, and the lower members being arranged on the front side of said casing at the bottom thereof; bolts for securing said upper stop-engaging members in position, arranged through the said slots thereof, said bolts being provided with nuts on the inside of said casing; screws for securing said lower stop-engaging members in position, arranged through the said slots thereof; fillers arranged at the ends of said ,casing between said stop-engaging members, said fillers being formed of sections, the top and bottom edges of one section being folded over. the other whereby they are adjustably connected, the outer ends of said sections having flanges thereon, the flange of one section having key-hole slots therein to engage screws on the end of the casing, and the flange of the other being adapted to engage .the stops of the window; a partition for said casing arranged transversely thereof; a door for the front of said casing, said door being hinged at its upper edge; and an outer door for said casing opening into one of the compartments thereof.
2. The combination with a casing adapted to rest on a window-sill, of window stopengaging members having longitudinal slots therein, the upper members being adapted to telescope into said casing, and the lower members arranged on the front side of said casing at the bottom thereof; bolts for securing said upper stop engaging members in position, arranged through the said slots thereof, said bolts being provided with nuts on the inside of said casing; screws for securing said lower stop-engaging members in position, arranged through the said slots thereof; a partition for said casing arranged transversely thereof; a door for the front of said casing, said door being hinged at its upper edge; and an outer door for said casing openlng into one of the compartments thereof.
8. The combination with a casing adapted to rest on a window-sill, of window stopengaging members having longitudinal slots therein, the'upper members being adapted to telescope into said casing, and the lower members arranged on the front side'of said casing at the bottom thereof; bolts for securing said upper stop-engaging members in position, arranged through the said slots thereof, said bolts being provided with nuts on the inside of said casing; screws for securing said lower stop-engaging members in position, arranged through the said slots thereof; and fillers arranged at the ends of said casing between said stop-engaging members, said fillers being formed of sections, the top and bottom edges of one section being folded over the other whereby they are adj ustably connected, the outer ends of said sections having flanges thereon, the flange of one section having key-hole slots therein to engage screws on the end of the casing, and the flange ot' the other being adapted to engage the some of a window.

9. The combination with a casing adapted to rest on a window sill, of adjustable window stop-engaging members adapted to telescope into said casing; and means for securing said stop-engaging members in position adapted to be manipulated only from the inside of the window.
10. The combination with a casing adapted to rest on a window-sill, of adjustable window stop-engaging members; fillers arranged the ends of said casing, said fillers being formed of telescoping sections; a partition for said casing arranged transversely thereof; a door for the frontof said casing; and an outer door for said casing opening into one of the compartments thereof.
11. In a structure of the class described, a casing comprising bottom, side walls and a top, said top being inclined and consisting of an inner wall and an outer wall, said outer wall being formed of Sl1 metal and having downturned flanges at its edges and being adapted to embrace the edges of the inner wall, said walls being spaced to form an air chamber bet veen the same, there being ventilating openings at the upper and lower edges of said chamber arid through.

In a structure of the class described, a casing comprising bottom, side walls and a top, said top being inclined and consisting of an inner wall and an outer wall, said walls being spaced to form an air chamber between the same, there being ventilating openings at the upper and lower edges of said chamber and through said casing bottom and said inner wall.
13. The combination with a casing adapted to rest on a window-sill, of adjustable window stop -engaging members having b'rads in the ends thereof, said casing being provided with brads adapted to engage said sill; andfillers arranged at the ends of said casing.
