ATTORNEYS garland RFlE WILLIAM BROWN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.

no. sugar.
Patented April 13, 1909.
' Application filed December 26, 1908. Serial No. ceases.
To all whom it mag concern:
;Be it knownthat I, WILLIAM BnowN, a cltlzen of the United States, and residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Window Attachments, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains' tomake and use the same.
This invention relates to window attachments; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class designed to serve as a rece tacle.for food and other artielse which are lable to become spoiledif 'con ,tained in a Warm apartment; a further object being to providea device of 'the class specified which is also designed for use as a refrigerator in summer time, but which may be used either in summer or winter with advantage, and which is also provided with improved means-for attaching it to or securing it in a window frame, and with these and other objects in view the invention consists of a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in sectional detail. of the bottom .of my improved window attachment, Fig. 4 a view similar to Fig. 3 but showing a modification, Fig. 5 an end view of the window attachment with the bottom thereof modified as shown 'in Fig. 4 and showing the bottom sill of the fication, I have shown the bottom part of a window frame comprising the opposite side portions a and the bottom sill a and the sides of the window frame are provided with the usual vertical grooves a and a separated by the usual vertical beads or strips a and in which the top sash a and bottom sashes a are placed.
in the practice of my invention, 1 provide a window attachment comprising a suitable box or container b, the length of which is less than the transverse-- width of the window frame, and secured to the front,'sideand opposite end portions of said box or container are plates'c which are laterally adjustable.
T e plates 0 areprovided with horizontal slots 0, and the front wall I) of the box or container is rovided with studs or screws (1' which pass t rough said'slots and the outer ends of said studs or screws are provided with washers d and with thumb nuts d as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 7,,and by means of this construction the plates 0 may be adjusted laterally as will be readily understood. The plates 0 are also provided at their outer edges with forwardly-directed flanges c and at the bottom thereofwithlorwardly directed flanges c", and .in practice the outer edges of these plates and the said flanges c .fit in the bottom portions of the grooves a saidfian es into the sides of the frame and into the ottom sill thereof, and by means of Y this construction-the attachment is adapted for use in window frames'of diilorent widths as. will be readily understood.
, The op site end portions of the box or container are also provided witlrvcrtically adjustable plates'f which serve as legs, and which aid in supporting the said box or container on the window sill,;and the plates f areprovided with vertical slots f and the ends of the box or container are provided with studs or screws (1 which are passed through the slotsf and said studs or screws are similar to the studs or screws cl which connect the front plates 0 with the front of the box or container and are provided with' sills.
The box or container 3) is provided, in the form of construction/ shown, with a horizontal open-work partition 9 which divides a collar, flange or rim b'within which, in,
practice, ice-is glaced and the drip water passes downwar ly through the opening 6? and falls into a drawer i which may. be removed and emptied whenever desired.
When it is not desired to use ice in the box or container a short retaining tube 7' is placed in the 0 nin b as shown in Fig. 4 and supported y a ange or rim 7" which rests on the bottom I) of the box or container, and
secured in the tube is a supplemental 0 enwork tube or sleevelc having a partition as clearly shown in Figs. 4 and 6 and this device is used for ventilating purposes in cold weather, or when ice is not used in the box or container.
The retainin tube 7', in this construction is. not absolute y necessa'r and the ventilating tube 1c ma be use with or without said retaining tu e and may be secured in the bottom of the box or container in any desired manner. I
I am aware that window attachments of this class have heretofore been provided, but my invention relates to the details of construction herein described whereby the deviceis made simple in construction and 'eflicientin operation and adapted to be con-.
1 nected with window frames of difierent may be made, within the scope of the a transverse dimensionsand of different styles of construction, and changes 1n and mo d1- fications of the construction herein described pended claims, without departing from t e spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
- scribed comprisin Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is;
1. A window attachment of the class dea box or container the front portion of w ch is rovided at the o posite ends thereof with aterally adjustab e suppprts adapted to fit in and be secured in the ottom portions of the rooves in which the top sash is placed, said ox or'container being also-provlded at its opposite ends with vertically adjustable legs or supports.
2. A window attachment of the class described comprisinlgla box or container the front portion of w ch is rovided at the o posite ends thereof with aterally adjustab e sup orts adapted to fit in and be secured in the ottom portions of the rooves in which the top sash is placed, said ox 01' container being also prov1ded at its opposite ends with vertically adjustable legs or supports, and the bottom ofsaid box or container being provided with a drain beneath which is placed a removable drawer.
3. A window attachment com risin a box or container having'laterally a justable devices adapted to fit in the bottom portion of the sash grooves and to be secured therein,
said box on container being also provided with vertically adjustable end supports.
4. A window attachment com rlsilm a box or container having laterally a justable devices adapted to fit in the bottom portion of the sash grooves and to be secured therein, said. box or container being also provided with vertically adjustable end supports, and with ventilating devices. I
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have si ed my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 24th day of December 1908.
