DOLL.
Specificationof Letters Patent. Patented Feb. 21, 1922 Application filed March 6, 1919. Serial No-;. 280,887.
To all to ham it may concern:
Be it known that I, KAREN MARIE I'IAN- resident of Silkeborg, in the State of Denmark, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dolls, of which the following is a specification.
The dolls, which children are given to play with, are generally so constructed, that foot piece besides rotating. The doll stands.
it is not possible-or at least only with great diiiiculty-to make them stand uprighton theirlegs. On account of this deficiency the doll will be a. less amusing and serviceable toy, especially for smaller children, and entails further the drawback that the doll is easier broken by falling over, when attempts to make itstand are made, or when it is brought into an uncertain position.
This invention relates to a doll, in which the described deficiencies are sought to be relieved. It consists mainly of the doll arranged upon a foot piece, the bottom of" which is slightly convexed, and the top side provided with a cylindrical part to which the lower edge of the dolls body is attached in an easy and convenient manner.
When such a doll is set into rotation by the hand, it will continue to rotate for a longer or shorter time. If the doll, when being set into rotation, is simultaneously brought out of its perpendicular position,
it will perform circular movements over the firmly and will not upset if subjected to softer blows or pushes.
The accompanying drawings illustrate one construction of the device, which is characteristic for the present invention.
. Fig. 1 is'a front view of the doll, and
Fig. 2 is the same view partly in section.
The doll is mounted upon a foot piece 1, convex at its under side, the plane top side of which forms the greatest diameter of the doll. In the middle of this side a vertical rod or bar 2 is attached, running up through PATENT- o'F =Ic}E1.-
the body of the (1011 intofthe an a The top end of this bar 2 is moulded in the head y means of plaster of paris or any other slmilar material or attached hereto in any other manner. The center of curvature of the convex under'surface. is preferably sub stantially at the upper end of the rod 2 so that while the convexity is not great, and is 1nc-onspicuous, the structure will not be topheavy. v
The body of the doll consists of a case 4:
mounted around the rod 2 and filled with a suitable material as e. g. wood flock, tow or suchlike.
The lower edge 5 of the case 4 is attached to the foot piece, which to this end is supplied with a cylindrical part that fits into theedge 5 of the case 4:.
Finally the head ofithe doll is either sewn or glued to the case 4; in known manner.
The shape and the fitting up of the doll as well as the stuff of which it is made can naturally be varied in many ways without in any manner whatever affecting theprin c1ple of this invention.
I have shown an embodiment of my inven tion, but 1t 1s clear that changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit thereof as defined in claim. What I claim is:
the appended An improved doll comprising a base shaped my signature
