PIPE WRENCH.
Application filed June 22, 1921. Serial No. 479,634.
T0 aZZ whom it may com com Be it known that I, WVILLIAM JOHN TWISS, a subject of Kin George of Great Britain, and residing at fialgary, in the Province of Alberta, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain and useful Improvements in a Pipe Wrench, of which the following is a specification.
In my invention it is sought to provide an easily placed pipe wrench which will be self adjusting to a number of different sizes of pipes, the amount of adjustment necessary for various size of pipes beingreduced to the minimum.
I accomplish these objects by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which I Fig. l isa perspective view showing the wrench in position for use.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the pivoted jaw. v
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the member for holding the jaws in relation to one another when the wrench is in use.
Similar characters designate similar parts throughout the several views. ais a shank which serves as a handle formed integral with which is a jaw b, the underside of which jaw is provided with a serrated edge '0. The end of the jaw 6 remote from the shank is bifurcated as shown at (Z and in this bifuri cated end, one end 6 of a lower or second jaw f is pivoted with a pin g.
The jaw f is bent downwardly so as to leave a space between its upper surface and the lower surface of jaw 6, this space being tapered and of any suitable size. The end of the jaw remote from the pivot extends the upper jaw b and the interior surface of the lower jaw f, the rectangular member 2' holding the two jaw members adjacent to one another. r
Having now described my invention, what I claim is: I
1. A pipe wrench of the class descr bed Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 21,1922.
comprising shank having one end offset to form an upper jaw, such jaw being provided with a bifurcated end a plurality of teeth extending transversely across the undervface of the said upper jaw,a lower jaw .adapted to be 'pivotally connected to the said bifurcat'ed end, a catch member substantially rectangular in shape having a slot therethrougl'i such slot being pivoted to the said shank and adapted to engage with the free end of the '1 said lower jaw and means engaging with the said catch member adapted to control the adjustment of the said lower jaw relatively to the upper jaw. 1
2. A pipe wrench of the class descibed comprising a shank having one end offset to with a; bifurcated end, a plurality ofteeth extending transversely across the under face .of the said upper jaw, a lower jaw adapted having a threaded orifice extending through the upper end thereof, such slot being adaptform an upper aw, such aw being provided ed to engage with the free end of the said lower jaw and a set screw designed to make threaded engagement with the said threaded orifice, as and for the purpose specified.
3. A pipe wrench of the class described comprising a shank having one end offset to form an upper jaw, such jaw being provided with a bifurcated end, a pluralityof teeth extending transversely across the under face of the said upper jaw, a lower adapted to be pivotallyconnec'ted to the said bifurcated end, the other end of the said lower jaw being bent downwardly, a catch member substantially rectangular in shape having an upwardly extending slot therethrough, and having a threaded orifice through the top member thereof, such slot being designed to be pivoted to the lateral side of the said shank, the lower end of the said slot being designed to engage with the free end of the lower jaw and a set pin j designed to engage with the said threaded orifice, as and for the'purpose specified.
