To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that we, lVALDEMAR Kore and Louis GOLDSMITH, both citizens of the United States residing, respectively, in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, and the borough of Bronx, city and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Brassieres, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a brassiere and more particularly to that type of brassiere which as heretofore constructed have been made to comprise a front member and a back member connected by shoulder straps and having side extensions with tapes connected thereto so that the front member may be adjusted to position by passing the tapes extending from the sides thereof around the waist of the wearer and securing the same in position, while the back member is then caused to overlap or partially overlap the side extensions of the front member and is provided with tapes whereby the back menr ber may be adjusted and secured in position completing the adjustment and the securing of the garment in place on the body. Heretofore in some instances difiiculty has been experienced in maintaining the back member in position and as will be understood When the back member has a tendency to ride or creep upwardly it disarranges the entire garment, particularly loosening the side members thereof and causing the same to wrinkle and to thus produce an uncomfortable and ill appearing garment. The

object of the invention is to overcome this difficulty and to provide in a brassiere of the type described devices coacting with the adjusting and securing tapes to maintain the back of the garment in position relatively to the tapes, and the construction may be such that the adjusting and securing tapes also prevent the extensions of the back member from working upwardly on the body of the wearer, as will be hereinafter more particularly described.

Referring to the drawing, and particularly to Figs. 1, 2 and 3, it will be seen that in carrying out our invention the brassiere made in accordance therewith preferably comprises a front member 10 and a back member 11 connected by suitable shoulder straps 12 and.13. As is customary in garments of this type the front member is provided with side extensionsl4 and 15 adapted to pass around the body of the wearer, and similarly the back'member is provided with side extensions 16 and 17 also adapted to pass around the waist of the wearer and to partially, at least, overlie the side extensions 14, 15 of the front member. As clearly illus trated in Fig. 3, the extremity of the side extension 14 of the front member is provided with a strap 18 in which there is an eye 19, and similarly connected to the extremity of the side extension 15 there is a strap 20 provided with an eye 21. We also employ tapes 22 and 24, the tape 22 being provided with a hook 23 and the tape 24 with a hook 25 so that these tapes may be readily connected to and disconnected from the straps 18 and 20 respectively by engaging the hook 23 with the eye 19 and the hook 25 with the eye 21, and also disengaging these members to separate the parts. This, as will be understood, is done in order to facilitate the ease with which the garment may be placed on the body of the wearer and connected and adjusted to position.

In the lower edge of the back member approximately centrally thereof we provide a strap 26 in which there are eyes 27 so that the tape 22 may be threaded through these eyes 27 in one direction and the tape 24 threaded through the eyes in the opposite direction. As illustrated in this figure the tape 24 is also threaded through a loop 28 while the tape 22 is threaded through a similar loop 29. Furthermore the tape 24, illustrated in this construction, is threaded through an eye 30 placed at the extremity of the side extension 16 ofthe back member and similarly the tape 22 is threaded through an eye 31 provided therefor in the extremity of the side extension 17 of the back member. in this form of garment the side xtension 16 of the back member is also provided with an adjusting tension strap 32 fitted with a hook 33 and the opposite side extension 17 'of the back member is similarly fitted with an adjusting tension strap 34 to which is connected an eye 35 adapted to be engaged by the book 33. i

In the use of this garment, after the same has been placed on the body of the wearer, the tapes 22 and 24 being permanently associated with the back of the arment by passing through the eyes 27 in the strap 26 and through the. loops '28 and 29 as well as through the eyes 30 and 31, the hook .23 maybe engaged with the eye 19 and the hook 25 with the eye 21 and the parts of the, garment drawn together by pulling the free ends of the tape at the front waist line portion of the garment in order to adjust the parts of the garment to position and maintain the same in place, whereupon, as will be understood, the free ends of the tapes may be tied together to maintain the garment as thus adjusted on the body. Then, as will be understood, the hook 33 may be engaged with the eye 35 to furtherseeure the extremities of the side extensions of the back member in place, and as the tapes 22 and 24 pass through the eyelets 31 and 30 the extremities of the side extensionsof the back member are prevented from working upwardly.

Byreference to Fi 4, it will be seen that we may dispense with the detachable connections between the ends of the adjusting and securing tapes 22 and 24 and the extremities of the side extensions of the front member by securing corresponding ends of the tapes 22 and 24 to the extremities of these side extensions of'the front member as, for

instance, by'lines of stitching as indicated at 36 in'Fig. 4. It will be understood that otherwise the construction shown in Fig. 4 is similar tothat shown in Fig. 3 and'while not so convenient to place the garment on the body,when onceon the body the parts may be adjusted to position in the same mannerand with the same facility as is done with the construction shown in Fig. 3.

By reference to Fig. 5, it will be seen that instead of employing the devicesfor coacting with the adjusting and securing straps;

on the inside of the garment, as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4, these devices or attachments may be associated with the'outer side of the back member, in which case the side extensions of the frontmember overlap the ad j acent portions of the slde extensions of the back member, and the tapes, as illustrated,

are preferably connected permanently to the extremities of the side extensions-of the front member. In this structure also the side extension 17 of the back member is provided with a strap 37 and the side extension 16 of the back member with a strap 38 so that these straps 37 and 38 may be connected at the front of the body by a hook and eye 39 or any similar device; The tape connected to the side extension 15 of the front member is indicated at 40 and the tape connected to to that hereinbefore described in the use of the preferred form of the invention with the exception that the extremities of the side extensions of the back member are first adjusted and connected and then the ends of the tapes 40 and 41 are drawn around the body to adjust the front member to position and tied or otherwise secured together to maintain the entire garment in place. ()1 viously in either construction thetape members and the back member are so associated that they can not ride or work upwardly on the garment so as to cause the parts to become loose and wrinkled thereby accomplishing the object of our invention.

In a brassiere, a front member, a back member, both the said members being adapted to extend over the side portions of the body of the wearer, a loop device attached to the lower portion of the back member, and tapes attached to and extending from the extremities of the front member and tl'ireaded through the saidloop devicein the back member and also through the extremities of the back member and adapted to be connected together to secure the garment in positionon the body of the wearer.

2. In a brassiere, a front member having side extensions, a back member having side extensions, a loop device attached to the lower central portion of the back member, a tape detachably connected to the extremity of one side extension of the front member passing through the said loop and also through an eye provided therefor at; the exremity of the opposite side extension of the 'back member, and a tape detachably connected to the other side extension of the front member also passing through the said prevented from working up wardly.
