To all whom z't may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH M. CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Apollo, in the county of Armstrong and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Wrenches, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to wrenches, and more particularly to a multiple armed wrench which may be used in connection with socket members, or may be applied directly to nuts which it is desired to apply or remove.
One of the main objects of the invention is to provide a wrench of the character stated having a plurality of sockets of varying sizes and means for renderin any one of the sockets, selectively, availab e for use. A further object is to provide a wrench of this character in which any one of the socket members may be readily replaced, and which may be readily assembled or disassembled for cleaning, repairs, or other purposes. Further objects will appear from the detailed description.
Figure 1 is a plan view, partly in section, of a wrench constructed in accordance with my invention.

The body of the wrench is of T-shape and includes a stem 1 upon which is threaded a head 2 by means of a neck 3, the head being secured against rotation upon the stem by a set screw 4. An outer socket member 5 is threaded upon each end of head 2, and is secured against rotation upon the head by a set screw 6. A rod 7 is slidably mounted in a bore extending through head 2, and this rod is provided at one end with a socket member 8 which fits snugly within socket member 5 and is threaded upon rod 7. As the socket members 5 and 8 are both of hexagonal cross-section, rotation of member 8 is prevented so that this member cannot become detached from rod 7. A second socket member 9 is detachably secured by a screw 10 upon the other end of rod 7 and fits snugly within socket 'member 5 at the other end of head 2. As will be more clearly noted from Fig. 1, the socket members 8 and 9 are of less length than the socket members 5 so that by moving the rod 7 into its extreme position in either direction one of the socket members 5 is rendered available for use at one end of the head, and one of the socket members 8 or 9, as the case may be, is available for use at the other end of the head. A screw 10a is threaded into rod 7 at the longitudinal center thereof, and the head 11 of this screw projects through a slot 12 formed in head 2 of the wrench and lits snugly between fingers 13 at one end of stem 14 of the latch member 15, the latch member being pivoted to the screw by a pin 18a. Body 16 of this member is provided with a groove 17 at its outer end, which is adapted to receive the outer portion of the inclined wall 18 at either end of slot 12. When the rod 7 is moved into its extreme position in either direction, latch member 15 Y is depressed so as to be secured against accidental displacement by wall 18, thus locking the rod 7 in position.
Stem 1 is provided with a central bore in which is slidably mounted a rod 7a correspondin to rod 7 and provided at its outer end Wit a socket member 5a detachably secured on rod 7a by means of a screw 10b. Socket member 5a fits snugly withiny an outer socket member 5b threaded upon the outer end of stem 1 and secured in adjustment thereon by set screw 6a. As will be noted more clearly from Fig. 1, socket member 5a is of approximately one-half the length oijf socket member 5b so that by adjusting the rod either socket member, optionally, may be rendered available for use. For securing rod 7a in adjustment I provide a latch member 15L similar to latch member 15, which is pivoted on a screw 10c threaded into rod 7u, this latch member 15a coperating with inclined walls similarto walls 18 for locking rod 7a in longitudinal adjustment.
In practice the inner and the outer socket members are all of diiierent sizes so that the wrench will take six different sizes of nuts, and any of the socket members desired may be quickly and easily rendered available for use. As will be understood, this wrench may be applied directly to the nuts which it is desired to remove or apply, or may be used in connection with socket members in the same manner as the ordinary socket wrench.
