Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE- CHARLES cAToN, oF cosHocToN, enrol IMPROVEMENT IN MrrER-BoXEs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,867', dated June 17, 1873; application led April 7, 1873.
` letters ot' reference marked thereon.
This invention is an improvement upon my patent for improvement in miter-boXes, granted May 21, 1872, NJ. 126,873; and consists in certain details of construction, by meansof which the device is simplified and improved.
In the drawings, Figure l represents a side elevation ot' my improved machine, Fig. 2, a plan view, and Fig. 3 a partial sectional elevation.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to fully describe its construction.
A represents the hase-board, supported upon pins t a', as shown. B B represent the gage-irons, against which the wood is held when being operated upon. These are provided with anges b b, which are strongly secured to the base-board by means of screws, as shown. These irons are also each provided, at the proper point, with a recess adapted to receive one of the feet of thesemicircular iron C, which is secured in place by means of a bolt or rivet, as shown. D represents the saw-guide, consistin g of a rod--for eonvenien ce made in two parts-which is recessed at its lower end, and provided with arms to hold the saw. E represents a socket-iron attached to the semicircular iron C, which socket holds the upper end of the saw-guide, the latter being free, however, to revolve in either direction, or to move vertically, it being.l
rigidly secured in any desired position by means of the set-screw c. d represents a removable and adjustable ring attached tothe upper end of the saw-guide, `which serves, by means of an index, d1,`to indicate upon the marked face of the socket-iron E the exact position of the slot in which the saw moves.
The socket-iron E isl capable of sliding freely in either direction upon the semicircular iron C, and may be fixed in any desired position by means of the set-screw d2. u
F represents a gage attached to the edge of the base-board, and made adjustable by means of a set-screw, as shown. i
The operation of my invention will be readily understood, and will not, therefore, be described.
Having thusfully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isl. The combination of the saw-guide and a removable clamping index-ring, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the saw-guides having the clampin g-rin g with index nger, and
the socket-iron having the marked surfaces,
and the are C, as described. u
This specification signed and witnessed this 24th day of March, 1873.
