IMPROVEMENT IN WRAPPERS FOR BOTTLES Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,308, dated May 27, 1873; application filed February 7, 1873.
. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALLAN E. FRANCIS, of
Ravenna, county of Portage and State of folding and securing the lower end. Fig. 6
shows how the upper end is formed. Fig. 7 is the piece that closes and secures the upper end.
The wrapper is made of paper, and may be of different sizes and forms to fit the numerous sizes and forms of bottles, closed at the top, and open only at the bottom to receive the bottle, after which it is closed byfolding, and secured by the adhesive part D previously moistened. The paper of which the wrappers are made is cut as nearly square as the length and circumference of the bottle will admit, and-may be printed upon, the wrappers bearing any advertisement, design, ornament, or other printed matter chosen by the parties for whom they are intended. The wrappers are made on a form, and the corners at' the upper end folded down by a machine far enough to make the top of the wrapper smaller than the bottom, and of proper size to inclose the top of the neck of the bottle. Two of the corners at the top of the wrapper are folded toward each other, and on the opposite side the other two corners are folded toward each other. folded corners on the two opposite sides of the wrapper are then held down by the application of the top piece, which is covered ononc side by mucilage or other adhesive substance. The top piece is made as wide as the top of the folded wrapper, and long enoughfor each end to extend down on the side of the wrapper lower than the folded corners of the wrap per, so as to cover them and hold them down, and also close the top of the wrapper as shown in Fig. 3.
I claim as my invention The wrapper for bottles, constructed smaller at the top than the bottom,'all the sides being formed of one piece of paper, closed at the top by the adhesive top piece, and open at the bottom, with an adhesive part, D, for closing the bottom, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth. 1
' ALLAN E. FRANCIS.
