FAER BOX FOR PACKING PAINTS, &c.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented' Nov; 2, 1909,
Application filed October 9, 1908. Serial No. 456,974.
color, number or kind of paint or other material by simply printing an assortment of small and comparatively inexpensive labels indicating the designation, nuinber and color of the paints or other contents, which labels are alixed to the closingb` tongue or .(iap of the paper boxesor packages as the goods arc T o all whom it may concern.' Y
Be it known that I, FRANK F. CORNELL, a. citizen of 'the United States of America, residing in New York, in the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New lYork, have invented certain new and useful. linprovenients in .Paper Boxes for Paeking Paints and #theirrieies of which the following speeieation- Y packed in and replen ring steek. By arrangement indivi This invention relates to anY improved 00h11?, itiglk 01' mmbl iS Vble folding paper box which is: intended. to be through the sample-windovz.L which is arused as a Wrapper or outer package for ranged in theY ren'bwalk oi-tlro boxr the paints and similar materials packed in cans, SfllllplQ-VVIDCOW IQgiSGrlng Wlth the (1Q-Slgbottleg or other Containern. und which 0111er nation-label on the tongue or llap applied to package permits the dircct'reading ott of Ithe lll@ lOp-Wzlll of the bOX. This arfangelnent. contente of the box; and for this purpose` the enables tho manufacturer toA provide a large invention consiste of a folding popmhox quantity of packages printed with the desigmade from a one-piece wrapper provided nation, color and number ai'.- a comparatively with a sample-Window in the front-wall, and Small expense and without crowding up the a. tifiied-in tongue or flap provided with a Storage-Iwan tor the goods. (colored designating label for .indicating the contents of the package placed in the paper box.
In the accompanying` drawino', Figure l represents a perspective view of my improved oldino paper box or outer 1' aclmge for paints and other materials. i
package is made ot' one integral blank, which 'in its general construction is similar to the blanksA oi the well-known packing boxes on the market, and which consists of a creased blank `formed of a jfront-Wall o, sidewalls o.' and a rear-Wall a?, the latter being provided with a gunnned side-flap a at its edge Afor being pasted onto one of the sido-walls o. The side-walls 4 vided with top-llapsI oeach being olA half the size ol the side-llaps, aud with boliom- L). is a vertical transverse section on line 2, 2, Fig. l, and Fig. 3 is a plan view o the blank from which the paper box or outer package is made.

feature of novelty of my improved paper box or package. As shown, the lower and side ed es of the label register with the correspon ing edges of the flap alo. This arrangement facilitates the placing of the labels in correct position on the iap to register properly withthe window 0, since the edges of the lap form a convenient marking to indicate where the label is to go and a convenient edge on which to rest the fingers to form a stop against which to place the label.
By making the color of the label correspond with the color, tint or shade of the paint or other materialA and putting the name, designation or number in a suitable contrasting color on the colored background,
the contents of the paper box can be quickly read off and determined; but it is obvious that any label which indicates the color, designation or number of the contents can be used, the designation of the contents being printed, Written, stamped or otherwise applied to the turned-in front-flap of the top-portion of the box.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and. desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A paper box havin@ a hinged cover, a flap at the front-edge of: said cover, a label applied to said flap, the front-wall of said box being provided with a window which registers with and forms a frame and protection for said label when said box is closed.
2. A paper box having a hinged cover, a iiap at the front-edge of said cover, a label attached to said flap and having its lower and side edges registering with the corresponding edges of said iap,the front-wall of the box being provided with a window arranged to register withand .form a frame and protection for said label through which the label is visible When the box is closed.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
FRANK E. CORNELL.
