LINEM AN'S SAFETY cum. APPLICATION FILED APR. 20. I921.

INVENTOR.
'J ATTORNEYS.

JOHN N. DAVIS, OF DALLAS, TEXAS.
LINEMANS SAFETY-CHAIR.
aeasae.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, JOHN W.-DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dallas, in the county of Dallas andState of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Linemens Safety- Chairs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a safety chair for linemen, and the object of the invention is the production of a simple and efiicient chair for permitting linemen to sit thereon while examining or working upon a cable.
With this end and other objects in view, my inventioncomprises certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a chair constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary, sectional View of one of the wheels.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of another embodiment of the present invention.
Fig. 4: is a sectional view, taken on line 44:, Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates the end frames. Each frame comprises a main portion 2 terminating, at its lower end, in a stirrup-like structure 3, in which rests the ends of the seat or board 4:. The end frames are substantially U-shaped in cross section and are provided, on their top, with cut-out or notched portions 5, in which is seated the horizontal bar 6; the bar 6 is bent at right angles, at its ends, producing hooks 7 that hook over the outer sides of the main portions 2.
Braces 8 are secured, at 9, upon the bar 6, and bolts 10 secure the lower ends of the braces to the main portions, these bolts having lock nuts 11 on their outer ends, to more securely fasten the parts together. The bolts 10 extend through the axle of the grooved wheels 12. Each wheel 12 is provided with transversely-arranged grooves 13 (Fig. 2) for permitting the wheels to readily pass 7 over any obstruction upon the wire or cable 141, such as hangers 15 (Fig. 2), or the like. In the embodiment shown in. Fig. 3, I have Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented 0a. 4,1921.
Application filed April 20, 1921. Serial No. 463,029.
illustrated the structure of'a chair to be the top of the end frame, instead of to the horizontal bar, asshown in Fig. 1, and the lower ends of the braces are secured to the horizontal bar 6, instead of being directly secured against the end frames, as in the embodiment shown in Fig. 1. The principle is substantially thesame in both of the embodiments, (Figs. 1 and 3), the one substantial difference being that the horizontal bar 6 in one embodiment is at the top of the end frames, whereas, in the other embodiment, it is on the side of said frames.
The stirrup-like structures 3 are braced, at 16, and the upper, outer ends 17 of the main portions extend below the wire or cable 14, preventing accidental displacement of the chair off the supporting cable.
While I have described the preferred embodiments of my invention, and have illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates, during the extensive manufacture of the same and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such alterations or changes as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a chair of the class described, the combination of a pair of end frames, a seat formed on said end frames, a bar connecting said end frames, braces secured to the end frames and to the bar, and rollers journaled upon the end frames.
2. In a chair of the class described, the combination of end frames, a seat structure formed upon said end frames, a bar provided with hooked ends extending across the end frames, braces connected at one end to the end frames and connected to the bar between the end frames, and rollers journaled upon said end frames. 7
3. In a chair of the class described, the combination of end frames, a seat structure formed upon said end frames, each end frame U-shaped in cross section and provided in its web with a notch, a horizontal bar seated in the webs of the end frames and having its ends bent down against the outer side edges of the end frames, braces secured at their inner ends to the bar between the end frames and having their outer ends secured against and to the end frames, and rollers journaled upon the end frames.
4:. In a chair of the class described, the combination of end frames, a seat'structure formed upon said 7 end frames, said end frames provided with bar-receiving notches, a bar seated in said notches, inclined braces attached at one end to said bar and at their other ends to said end frames, and wheels journaled upon said end frames.
In a chair of the class described, the combination of end frames, a seat structure formed upon said end frames, said end frames provided with bar-receiving notches,
a bar seated in said notches, bracing means connected to the bar and to the end frames, and rollers journaled upon said end frames.
6. In a chair ofthe class described, the combination with end frames provided with a seat structure, of rollers journaled upon said end frames, and each roller provided with transversely-arranged grooves formed upon its periphery. i v i 7. In a chair of the class described, the combination of end frames provided with stirrup-like structures, a board or seat in said stirrup-like structures, and a bar and braces connected to 'theend frames near their, upper ends. 7
8. In a chair of the class describedQthe combination of end frames, each end frame comprising an elongated body having a substantially U-shaped stirrup at its lowerend and an inverted U-shaped portion at its upper end, a seat board carried by the stirrups of said frames, rollers revolubly mounted in the inverted U-shaped portions, a bar connected to said frames and angle braces connected at their ends to saidbar and to said end frames, as and for'thepurposes setforth.
In testimony whereof Irhereunto. aflix my signature.
JOHNW; DAVIS.
