EMIL o.. nosnncnimz; or EvANsvIL n, INDIANA.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatI, EMI'L C. ROSENGRANZ, a citizen of the Unitec'lStatles, residing at Evansville, in the county of Vanderburgh and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Windowi- Curtain; Brackets of which'the following is a specification. This invention 'relatesj'to window shade brackets and has for itsobjecttheprovision of a comparatively simple and-thoroughly eflicient'device of this charactercapable of being readily attached to a window frame or casing and which maybe quickly and convenientlyadjusted to accommodate shades of different widths without disturbing the bracket'suppo-rting means or in any manner cutting perforating or 'OllhBEWlSG marring saidw'lndow frame or casing. The invention further aims to provide an adjustable shade bracket including supporting members having a aseries of 7 transverse .slots formed therein and adapted to receive a locking tongue onthe base of the bracket whereby to permitlongitudinal adjustment of said bracket with respect to the supportingmember, .--means being provided for lockin gthe bracket; against tilting move- .ment-a-fter adjustment thereof'has been effected. I The invention further contemplates. the provision of a bracketwhich will permit a shade roller to be readily positioned between a pair of said brackets or. removed therefrom without the necessity of forming one'of the brackets with-the usual slot to accommodate the squared stud of the roller or without disturbing the supporting member of said bracket.
I A still further object is generally to improve this class of devices so as to increase;
of adjustable windowshade roller bracketsembodying theQpresent invention showing 7 the same appli'ed to a window frame;
7 Fig. 2 is an elevation oft one of the supporting members, the bracketthereon being shown partly in section 1 V v 1 Fi 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of F 1g. "2 showing the bracket locked in adjusted position;,g I

member. to 7 permit longitudinal. adjustment of the bracket with respect to the supporting" member; s a 1- *ig.. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3 and looking in r the direction .of the arrows;
Fig. 6,.is a similar view. taken on the line 66' of Fig 3;,
Fig 7 is a detail perspective view of one The improved device formingthe subject w matter of the presentinv'ention includes a pair of supporting members '5 each referably stamped or otherwise formed rom a single sheet of metal the opposite longitudinal-edges of which are. bent or folded. in-
w-ardly to, form parallel guideflanges 6 and the opposite ends thereof extended beyond said flanges to produce attaching ears 7 which bear flat against. the window frame tudinalireinforcing rib 10 having a plument; between the guide flanges- 6 of the supporting member are shaderollerv brackets 12" and. as; said brackets are identical in the brackets has a round opening .13 formed therein andthe other a square opening 15, apdescription of one will 'su-flice for both.
Each bracket comprises ashank '14 terminatingin 'a sub stantially circular concavo-c'onvex head "1 5" and provided with a flat base portion 16 disposed at substantially right angles to the shank'l i and-adapted to fit between 8 and arerigidlysecured. thereto by screws 1 i or similar fastening devices 9. Each supporting member is provided with a longiconstruction with the exceptionthat one of 'g the flanges G'of the supporting member. 7
Each base is provided with a raised portion 17 to adapt it to fit over and accommodate the rib 10. on the adjacent supporting member, and the metal at the end of the rib;17 is bent or deflected-laterally to form a deany one of the transverse slots ll-soas to nally; of the supporting member to accommodate window shades of different widths.
pending locking tongue 18 adapted to;enter Thebase 16 of each bracket is provided with g upstanding lugs 19ithe upper edges of which bear agamst the lower faces of the flanges .6; and; arranged directly above: saidlugs and extending laterally from the opposite longitudinal edges of the-shank.- 14 :are 1 spaced ears'20 preferably disposed at substantially right angles to the lugs 19 and spaced vertically therefrom a distance approximately equal to the thickness of the flanges6 to accommodate'the latter.
Pivotally mounted at 21 on the outer face of the shank 14 of each bracket is a looking member 22 having its free end provided with a cam face 23 terminating in a later- ,ally'directed finger piece or handle 24 so that by-pressing downwardly on the finger piece 24 the cam face 23 will be moved into contact with-theupper faces of the flanges 6 and lock-the bracket in adjusted position.
In using the device, the shade roller with the shade thereon is positioned between the brackets with the round stud at one end of the roller fitting in the circular bearing opening 13 in the right hand bracket after which the fingerpiece24 isdepresed to lock saidright hand bracket and the left' hand bracket adjusted the proper distance with' respect to the right hand bracket and the squared stud on the roller inserted in the a qlillare opening of said left hand bracket.
e' finger piece 24; of the leftha'nd bracket is then depressed which causes the cam face 23' of the locking member to bear against the flanges 6 thereby locking the left hand bracket in position on its supportingmemher and effectually preventing displacement of the shade. In order to release the, window shade the locking member 22 is swung upwardly out of engagement with the flanges 6 and the head 15 of the bracket pressed inwardly againstthe'adjacent end of the roller which causes the bracket to 'tilt'on-its supporting member so'as to release thelocking tongue from engagement with the adjacent opening 11 whereupon by exerting aslight forward pressure on the base of thebracket, the latter may be adjusted longitudinally of its supporting member so as to clear the shade roller'an'd permitthe same to be conveniently removed from the mating bracket. It will thus be seen that the In s 19 in conjunction with the ears20 form 1n effect a fulcrum or pivot upon which the bracket rocks when releasing the shade roller therefrom and that thecamqfa'ce 23 of the locking member b engagement with the up er faces 0 the flanges 6 serves to hold t e locking tongue 18 within the slot 11 and prevent tilting movementv of the bracket after adjustment thereof has been effected.
It will furthermore be noted that owing to'the tilting movement of the, bracketwith respect to its supporting member, a shade roller may be readily suspended between a pair ofsaid brackets without the necessity of forming one of the brackets with a peripheral slot to permit the passage .of the squared stud on the shade roller or without the necessity of disturbing the supporting .member or in any manner scratching, per- "foratl'ng or. otherwise marring the window frame.
WVhile the device is shown supported on a window frame itwill, of course, be underdow casing without departing from the spirit of the invention.
