Description

u. E. PLACK. ADJUSTABLE CURTAIN BRACKET.
APPLICATION FILED MAY14, 191B.
Patented July 16, 1918.
HENRY E. BLACK, or TOWSON, MARYLAND.
T I ADJUSTABLE CURTAIN-BRACKET.
To all whom it may concern: 1
Be it known that I, HENRY E. PLACK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Towson, in the county of Baltimore and State of lVlaryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Curtain-Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for supporting window shades, and its object is to provide a simple and eflicient device of this kind which can be easily adjusted with respect to the window frame to properly position the shade, and which is also reversible.
WVith the object stated in View, the invention consists in a novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, and in order that the same may be better understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device;
Fig. 2is across section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the bracket members.
Referring specifically to the drawing, the device is a bracket composed of two sections, one of which is an attaching member, and the other a supporting member for the shade roller.
The attaching member is a sheet metal or other plate 5 having rearwardly ofl'set extremities 6 provided with perforations 7 for fasteners whereby the plate is secured to the window frame, the offsets spacing the body portion of the plate from the win dow frame.
The top and bottom portions of the plate 5 are bent over to form channels 8 which are for a purpose to be presently described The supporting member for the shade roller comprises a shank 9 having a laterally extending bracket arm 10 at one end, said arm having the usual seat 11 for the shade roller spindle-end. For supporting the angular end of the shade roller spindle, a bracket arm 12 is provided, the same also extending laterally from a shank l3, and havin spindle-end seats 14, two of these seats eing provided, one of these being at the top and the other at the bottom of the bracket arm, so that the latter may be reversed and positioned at either end of the attaching plate, it being understood that Specification of Letters Patent. 7
Patented July 16, 1918.
Application filed May 14, 1918. Serial No. 234,363.
the bracket arm 12 has its shank 13 supported by a channel plate similar to the plate 5. The bracket arm 10 is also reversible, but as its spindle-end seat 11 is a circular perforation, only one seat is necessary.
The shank 9 is slidably mounted on the plate by seating in the channels 8 thereof, and it is held in adjusted position by a latch pin 15 carried by the plate and seating in one of a series of notches in the edges of the shank. These notches are shown at 16 in both the top and bottom edges of the shank 9, so that it may be reversed as hereinbefore described, and locked in either position.
As the shank 9 is adjustable in the direction of its length along the plate 5, it will be seen that the bracket arm 10 can be readily positioned to suit the length of the shade roller, the bracket arm 12 being also adjustable in this manner.
The latch pin 15 is vertically slidable in a guide carried by the upper edge of the plate 5, this guide being in the shape of a yoke 17 straddling the channeled portion of the plate and having slots 18 in its sides in which the headed inner end 19 of the latch seats. The channeled portion of the plate 5 has a recess 20 exposing the notched edge of the shank 9, through which notch the latch head 19 passes to engage the shank notch. The upper end of the latch has a lateral enlargement 21 providin a convenient finger-hold, and the top of the yoke has a recess 22 in which this enlargement seats when the latch is down in locking position. The latch operates by gravity, and no sprin s, etc., are provided to hold it seated in 100 'ng position.
It will be seen from the foregoing that the device provides a simple and convenient shade support, which can be readily adjusted to properly fit the shade to the window, and the shade is securely held after the proper adjustment is made.
I claim:
A shade roller bracket comprising a channeled attaching member, a roller-supporting arm having a shank at its inner edge adjustably mounted in the channels of the attaching member, said shank having a notched edge, a latch carried by oneof the channeled portions of the attaching member, saidchanneled portion having a recess exposing the notched edge of the shank, and
through which recess the latch passes to enof the latch having a lateral enlargement gage the notched edge of the shank, and a seating in said recess.
