SHADE-ROLLER SUPPORT.
specification of 'Letters Patent. t
- mutation me@ Janaryv, 191e. serial No. 70,04'5.
To all whom t mag/concern: v
Be it known that LJOHN HERNAGKI, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Alexandria, in the parish of Rapides and State of Louisiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shade- Roller Supports, of which the following is.
To the exact constructionin which it isV shown and described, the invention is not to be restricted. The right is reserved to make such changes or alterations as the actual reduction to practice may suggest, in so far as such changes or alterations are compatible in spirit with the annexed claim.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of one of the upper corners of a window frame showing the invention attached thereto.
Fig. 2 isa section on the line 2 2 ofV Fig. 1. Fig. Fig. 1. 0
Fig. 4 isv a view partly in section and partly in elevation showing the device attached on the facing of a window frame when the latter is not fiat.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the shade roller bracket employed in conjunction with the invention. l
As shown, the invention is'rattached to a window frame, portions of the vertical stile 1 and transverse piece 2 of which are shown. The invention comprises a body member 3 made preferably of flat steel and which in elevation has the shape substantially of a cross, being provided with lateral projections 4 in which and across the body member That portion of the 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of 4 terminates in a jaw clement 6 provided with teeth 7 designed to engage in the top edge of the transverse piece 2 or held between the said piece andthe plaster forming the wall back' of the frame. e l
vA curtain pole support 8 is riveted or otherwise'suitably attached tothe body member .3 on that part between the lateral projections 4 and the jaw element 6.
. 'Below' the lateral proyections 4, the body portion 3 isl provided with ya hole throughk which there is passed a bolt 9, the latter threadingly engaging the said hole.
A' transverse member 10 is provided'for attachment to the body member andv this transverse member is formed vwith a longi- Patentea sept. 7, 1920.
tudinalV slot lljthrough whichl the bolt 9 loosely passes. The transverse member 10 is further formedwith' a jaw element 12 having prongs 13 designed to engage the .outside edge of the vertical stile2 or to engage between the same and 'the plaster. Further than the transverse vrmember l() there is provided a second transverse member 14 lformed lwith aV plurality of interconnecting holes 15 and further formed with a jaw element lprcarrying at its end a cushion 17 of rubber, `felt or some other suitable material. The element or member 14 is attached to the .bolt 9 by passing the latter through any one of the holes 15, after which the attachment of the wing nut 16 serves to secure the body member andthe two transverse members'together, the first edge and the two latter gripping the vertical stile on the outer and inner edges. The holes 15 are provided so that the body member may be promptly positioned the first and the transverse lmember 14 thereafter positioned so that its cushion will lie against the inside edge of the vertical stile 1. It is-obvio'us that were a plurality of holes 15 not provided, the body member could `not be positioned centrally relative to the vertical stile of a window frame were the same of different width from that for which the device was originally designed. But the provision of the series of holes 15 enables the initial proper setting of the body member and thereafter the positioning of the transverse member 14 sothat its cushion 17 will engage the inl side edge of the vertical stile when the lood@v member is centrally positioned with refe-k ence to said stile.
gripping the window frame on the upper The transverse member 10, is obviously for the purpose of eiiecting a clamping operation in coperation with the transverse l member 14 after the latter and the body member have been positioned, as aforesaid. Attachable to that portion of the body member wherein the lateral projections f1. are formed there is a shade roller supporting bracket 18 which is formedwith a right angularly disposed base 19 inturned from which there is a lip 20, the latter loosely engaging in the slot 5. Centrally disposed in this base portion, there is a hole through which there is passed the bolt 21, the latter passing also throughthe slot 5 and thus providing for the attachment of the shade roller bracket to the body member 3 so that it may be adjusted laterally with reference tothe window frame onvwhich the device is used. In Fig. 4 there isi shown a portion of a window frame in which the vfront face is irregular. The improved bracket is adaptedfor attachment to this character of window frame', the only modification necessar being the replacement of the bolt 9 wit a much longer .boltv 22. Since either thel bolt 9 or bolt 22 threadingly engages the hole in the body portion through which vit passes, it is obvious that this bolt 22 may be adjusted to have its head bearing against the facing of the window frame tohold the body away therefrom so as to maintain it substantially vertical'. Thebolt having once been set to accomplish this result, the two transverse members 10 and 1.4 are atber, the said body member being nformed' jaw lterminal kdesigned to Vover hang with a the upper edge of the window frame, a transverse member formed withthe jaw terminal designed to engage the inner edge of' the vertical stile of the window frame, the said transverse member being formed with a plurality of interconnecting holes, a second transverse element formed with a jaw terminal for engagement with the outer edge of the vertical stile ofl the frame, the last said transverse member being'formed with a longitudinal slot, ,a` bolt engaged with the body member and passing through any one of the interconnecting holes and through the said slot, VVand a wing nut attached to thebolt and serving to secure the transverse members and thevbody portion together. v
Intestimony whereof I afrlx my signature.
JOHN HERNACKI.
