IMPROVEMET IN TOOLS FOR CUTTING LEATHER.
Speoification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,240, dated May 27, 18 73 application filed February 10, 1873.
To all whom it may conoe'n:
Be it known that I, JAooB DEMAREST, of
` Belleville, county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in, Leather- Cutting Tools, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention relates to the construction of a handle for knives used in Cutting leather and other such articles, and consists in a divided clamp, having a tapering thread, through which the knife-blade passes, and which can be made to hold the blade in any desired position.

a represents a hollo-w wooden handle, to which the threaded ferrule b is attached. Screwin g into this ferrule is the divided clamp c, made in two equal parts, threaded, and slightly tapering upon their periphery, so thatwhen screwed up into the ferrule they will be brought closely and tightly together. Passing between these two parts up into the handle is the knife-blade e, which, by slightly loosening the clamp, can be drawn out or in, and secured in any desired position.
