INVENTOR UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN DWORNICZAK, OF CHESTER, PENNSYLVANIA.
BRUSH.
Application filed .Tune 18,
To all 'whom it `may concern f Be it known that I, JOHN DWORNICZAK, a citizen of Republic of Poland, residing at Chester. in the county of Delaware and State of Pennsylvania. have invented new and useful Improvements in Brushes` of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to brushing and scrubbing and has for an object to provide a brush `for cleaning or polishing purposes. rl`he invention comprehends among other features a brush which is preferably motor driven and which ma)Y be constructed to provide a'suitable head having bristles, the head being removable from the body for the purpose of replacing a worn out brush with a new one. c
In' the further disclosure of the invention reference is to he had to the accompanying drawings constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views` and in which,-
Figure 1 is an elevation of the brush.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary "ertical sectional view taken through the brush head showing the manner of connecting the same to the shaft of the motor.
Fig. 3 is a view looking at the face of the brush, and
Fig. 4 vis a view looking at the face of the head.
Referring more particularly to the views the numeral 10 indicates an electric motor having a suitable handle 11, the motor being adapted for connection with a suitable source of electric energy whereby the usual g motor shaft 12 can be rapidly rotated. The
shaft 12 has its projecting end 13 threaded and furthermore includes an annular stop flange 14. The brush comprises the bristles 15 projecting from the brush head 16, which is preferably a two-part construction, consisting of the sections 17 and 18, the former carrying the bristles 15. rlllhe section 18`is in the nature of a .cover and is provided centrally with a squared opening 19, the section being suitably-fitted into a countersunk recess 20 in the section 17 which also has a squared opening 21 alining with the opening 19.. A
A coupling plate 22 is provided, the same having a squared head 23 fitting the squared openings 19, 21, and through which plate Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept. 27, 1921.
1920. Serial No. 389,931.
22 pass suitable screws 25 extending through the sections 1T, 18. to secure the coupling to the brush body. the squared head 23 having a threaded central bore 21 receiving the threaded end 13 of the motor shaft 12 with the coupling adapted to bear against the flange 11 so as to limit. the screwing of the couplinO onto the threaded part of themotor shaf From the foregoing description it will be seen' that when the bristles 15 of the brush wear out the brush in its entirety can be removed from the motor shaft fand then by removing the screws 25, thecoupling and -section 18 can be removed to providenccess to the bristles where they are fixed into `the part 1T, the screws 25 serving to secure the coupling to the brush body and also securing the section 18 to the section 1T. It will be `noteqd that the brush in its entirety comprises substantially the connectible sections 17, 18, together with the bristles -15 on the section 1.7, and also the coupling, and that as a unit in its make-up the brush structure can be applied to any desired form of motor or other shaft provided it can be suitablv attached or threaded thereto.
aving described my invention, I claim- The combination with a rotatable shaft having a threaded end, of a brush including two disk-like members of relatively different thicknesses, both of said members having alined squared openings, one' of said meinbers having a plurality of apertures, bristles threaded through the apertures and projecting from one side of the member, the opposite side or face of said` member belng recessed and providing an annular shoulder, the other ,part of said head'reposingupon said shoulder. a flange projecting from the confronting face of the latter mentioned member inwardly of the peripheral edge, and arranged to engage said shoulder, a coupling plate reposing upon the latter mentioned memben fastening elements passed through said plate and the respective parts of the head of the brush, whereby all of said parts are held operatively associated, .a threaded boss projecting centrally from sald plate and received bythe aforementloned squared openings, and said ,boss being threaded on the threaded ,end of the shaft. In testimony whereof Ialx my signature.
` JOHN DWQRNICZAK.
