J OHN P. DALE, OF BATTLE GREEK, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND DELEVAN E. DOANE, OF ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN MlLK-SAFES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 139,] 20., dated May 20, 1873; application filed March 8,1873.
tle Creek, in the county of Calhoun and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Milk-Safes; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon and being a part of this specification, in Which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention, showing the shelf in place eirtended for use. Fig. 2 is a perspective of the rotary rack, which is inclosed in the safe.
Like letters refer to like parts in each figare.
The nature of this invention relates to an improvement in the construction of that class 0f milk-safes which are provided with an internal rotative rack for carrying the milk-pans. The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of the various parts, as more fully hereinafter described.
In the drawing, A represents the Walls and- A the door of my safe, being simple wooden frames covered with wire-cloth in the usual manner. Bis the bottom and O the top of the safe. D is a standard, stepped into the center of the bottom, with its upper end journaled in the top of the safe. E is an annular trough, surroundingthe lower part of the standard, to contain water or other liquid to entrap and destroy such insects as may enter the safe and climb the standard in attempting to reach the milk-racks. E is a similar trough, in like manner, and for the same purpose, near the top of the standard. F are wooden rack-bars,
mortised through the standard D at right angles to the adjacent ones above and below. Near the outer ends of each bar F a short cross-bar, G, is halved into it, so that the upper faces of the two bars F G are upon the same plane, to support the milk-pans so that they will not be overturned in the rotation of the rack. H are circular shelves, attached to the standard D above the racks, for the-purpose of storing other articles. On one of these shelves is placed the circular pan I, in.
which ice may be placed in hot weather, if desired. This pan is provided with a radial slot, a, which embraces the standard D, and by this means the pan may be removed when necessary to empty it of water; or a drip-pipe may be arranged to carry oif said water. J is a fall-leaf shelf, hinged to the door-jamb in such a manner that it can be set up to a horizontal position to sustain a pan to be skimmed. This shelf is provided with a prop, b, hinged to the under side of the shelf to sustain it, as shown in the drawing.
I am aware that milk-racks with rotative standards have been in use; I therefore make no special claim to such invention; but
What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The shaft 1), having bars EandGr, shelves H H and 1, arranged as described, for the p urpose set forth.
2. The combination of the revolving parts above claimed with the safe, as and for the purpose set forth. 7 Witnesses: JOHN P. DALE.
H. F. EBERTS, H. S. SPRAGUE.
