UNITED STATES IVILLIAM II. GASSAWAY,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF VICTOR, COLORADO.
DISPLAY-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 612,328, dated October 11 1898.
Application filed April 2l, 1898.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM I-I. GAssAwAY, of Victor, in the county of El Paso and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Display-Case; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the saine.
My invention relates to that form of display-stands in which a central post is provided with trays or shelves and revolves about avertical axis; and it consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter shown and described. p
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a side elevation of the display-stand, showing the center revolving upright with shelving attached and two of the corner posts or uprights and also the base. Fig. 2 shows aside and a sectional view of the connection of the upright center post with the top bearing and the arms or arches. Fig. 3 is a plan view looking directly from above the device downwardly and showing the4 top of the four corner posts and connecting arms or arches. Fig. 4 shows vertical and transverse sections of the revolving center post and the manner in which the shelving and brackets are attached thereto.
I construct the framework of the square base Aand the four corner-posts C, as shown in Figs. 1 and 8, out of wood or metal in ordinary form and connect the same at the top with two curved arches extending across from opposite corners or by four arms E E, joining at the center. I construct the center post B principally out of wood and inlay or embed on two of its opposite sides notched or serrated metal strips M, Figs. 1 and 4, extending nearly the entire length of said upright, into which are set the ends of the metal springbrackets L, as shown in Fig. 4, and upon which brackets are adj ustably fastened the shelves J. Said shelves are of two sizes placed alternately upon said center post, as shown in Fig. l, and around the outer edges of the shelves is attached a serrated metal Serial No. 678,369. (No model.)
band or rim Kto aid or assist in safely keeping in place the goods placed on said shelves for display. In order that the center post B may revolve with said shelves and display all goods and wares upon the same from any point of view, I provide the same near the top with a round metal pin H, Fig. 2, which is firmly attached to said upright B and which' enters and revolves in the top bearing S, as shown in Figs. l and 2.
In order that the pin II may enter S without unnecessary inconvenience, a side opening of the proper size is cut in S, which is closed when the pin is in place bya suitable door t, hung and raised by means of a hinge R and closedand held in place by means of the hooklatch I, as shown in Fig. 2. The bottom of said center post B is constructed with asimilar metal pin, which within the base A enters and revolves in the cup or step bearing T.
Within the base A and firmly attached to and around the center post B is a band-wheel O, to which may be connected belting conveying power to revolve post B with its attached shelves, or the same may be revolved by hand.
The uprights C are detachably connected to the base at l? and may be removed for packing or shipping.
My invention may be constructed out of either metal or wood, as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the corner-posts C, the arched arms E E at the top having top bearing S with hinged door t and latch I, the center post with tenen, or pin at its upper end and inlaid serrated strips on its sides, the shelves with spring-brackets L, and a base with a step or cup bearing for the center post substantially as and for the purpose described. WILLIAM H. GASSAWAY.
