DOUGH RAISING CABINET AND DRIER.
N0 585,219. Patented June 29, 1897.

PATENT DOUGH-RAISING CABINET AND DRIER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 585,219, dated June 29, 1897.
Serial No. 631,576. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID MARTIN MERRY- MAN,a citizen of the United States, residin g at Bloomingdale, in the county of Jefferson and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dough-Raisin g Oabinets and Driers; 4and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being hadv to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. J
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in kitchen-cabinets, and especially to the provision of a dough-raising device or fruit-drier constructed in the form of a cabinet having a series of compartments for the reception of receptacles containing articles which it is desired to dry or for heating dishes, which may be placed directly on metallic partitions, to be heated by a lamp or other heating device placed beneath.
A further part of the invention resides in the provision ot' a galvanized partition for defleeting the heat of the lamp so that it will be evenly distributed over the heating-surface above, and then providing for removable racks, one of which is pivoted to the inner wall of the cabinet and adapted to swing up and be held to the fixed top of the cabinet when not in use.
To these ends and to such others as the invention may pertain the same consists, further, in the novel construction, combination, and adaptation of the parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I clearly illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this speciiication, and in which drawings similar letters of reference indicate like parts throughout both views, in which- Figure l is a front view of my invention with parts of the cabinet broken away to better illustrate the construction within. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the device.
Reference now being had to the details of construction of the invention, A designates the outer portion or casing ot the cabinet,
which has a lliked top B, which may be used as a table, ironing-board, the., and the interior of the cabinet is divided into compartments, two of which, as O O, have their bottoms a slight distance above the bottom of the cabinet. The said bottom portion of the cabinet has Va series of perforations therein, through which air is allowed to pass to the lamp D, which is placed in the space between the two compartments C. The inner side walls of the said compartments O are made ot' metal, preferably galvanized iron, and extend outwardly at their upper portions, as shown in the drawings, so as to allow the heat from the lamp to readily pass into the compartments when deflected by the metallic partition E, which runs horizontally across the cabinet. This partition E forms a surface upon which receptacles may be placed when it is desired to warm the same or their contents, and the ends of the partition are bent upward and secured to the under side of the top of the cabinet, leaving a slight space between the vertical portions of the metallic partition and the end walls of the cabinet, so that heat may pass up therein.
In order to distribute the heat from the lamp equally over the under surface of the said partition E, I provide the metallic strip F, which may be of any suitable width, preferably about six inches, which has its ends secured to the end walls of the cabinet and is arched over, as shown, a suitable distance above the top of the chimney of the lamp.
A short distance above the metallic partition is provided a removable rack H, which maybe made in sections, if desired, and which may be taken out when it is desired to place receptacles or other things directly on the metallic partition. A suitable distance above the said rack H is ay second rack K, which is pivoted on one side to the rear wall of the cabinet and has on its tree swinging edge or side the pivoted legs la, which are notched so as to engage over the rack-strips below when the said rack K is adjusted in a horizontal position.
When it is desired to swing the rack K up out of the way, a spring-actuated catch L, secured to the under side of the top of the cabinet, is employed, which engages'over the free swinging edge of the rack and holds it up out IOO of the way of any receptacle that may be placed on the lower rack. This upper rack is provided principally for use when it is desired to have a larger surface on which to place receptacles or articles for the purpose of drying or warming or raising bread.
Access is had to the compartment above the metallic partition through the door M, and suitable doors C are provided, by which access may be had to the two compartments C, before described.
In order to have means for Ventilating the upper compartment, a small door N is provided at one end and on the opposite side a thermometer may be carried, so that the temperature of the cabinet may be ascertained. The doors of the cabinet are preferably of glass, so that the progress of the raising of the dough within may be watched without opening the doors.
From the foregoing' it will be seen that a dough-raising cabinet and drier constructed in accordance with my invention provides means for readily raising the dough, for drying fruit, and for heating dishes which may be placed on the metallic partition contained therein.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with the dough-raising cabinet, having a fixed top and metallic partitions as described, the racks II and K, one of which K, being pivoted to the wall of the cabinet, the pivoted legs carried on the free edge of the rack, and the spring-actuated member carried on the under side of the top of the cabinet, whereby the swinging edge of the said rack may be held to the top of the cabinet when not in use, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DAV ID MARTIN MERRYMAN.
