Be it known that I, THEODORE D. ANAGNOS- TOPOULOS, a citizen of the. United States, residing at O elousas, in the parish of St. Landry and tate of Louisiana, have-invented certain newand useful Improvements in Box-Lid Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. 7 i

This invention relates to box lid holders and has for itsobject to provide a device of this character capableof being readily applied to any hinged'box lid without the use of fastening means. 1

Another object is to provide a holder of this character which not only holds the lid in its open position but provides a finger piece by means of which, the lidv may be readily raised. 7

A still further object of the invention is to provide a holder of this character formed,

from a single 'lengthof resilient material, one end portion of the length being extended. back upon said length and adapted to engagethe'rear' portion of the box to maintain the coverin its open position.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a holder of this character. having one end portion thereof extended back upon the body member of the device and, then extended .in angular relation. thereto to provide connecting means, said "r'earwardly extended portionnot only serving as means to maintain the cover in its open position but as'means to absorb any normal amount of pressure which would tend to move the cover toward the rear portion of the box.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the improved con struction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more. particularly described, fully illustrated and claimed in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an end'elevation of a box showing the invention applied,

In order to overcome this disadvantage,

-By this'noviel' formation of the end 8 a number of advantages are derived; for instance the spur 12 extends toward the end 6 of the body member to facilitate application of the holder to the'lid. At the same time a recess 13 is formed through the cooperation of the spur 12 and the adjacent portion of the body member 5. This recess is intended to receive the hinged edge of the cover B while the portion 10 and the angularly extended portion of the end 8 are disposed in spaced parallel relation to 'each other so that a spring action results.

In the application of the holder, the same is applied so that the hinged edge of the cover B is disposed within the recess 13, the spur 12 extending through the hinged connection, and frictionally engaging the inner surface of the lid. If the lid is relatively thick the spur may be disposed within the edge. The spur 7 is then forced into the outer surface of the cover. In view of the resiliency of the holder it is impossible for any normal force to disengage the holder from the lid.

An hnportantfeature of this holder is that'the angularly extended end portion 8 projects beyond the hinged edge of the cover B and slightly downwardly so that when the cover is raised, the end'ofthe angularly extended portion will engage the rear wall of the box A and hold the lid in its open position. Should any pressure be applied to the lid in its open position which would tend to move the lid toward the rear wall, the portion 11 cooperating with the angularly extended portion of the end 8 will resist the pressure so as to maintain the lid in, its open position and at the same time prevent disengagement of the holder from the box.

Another important function is performed by the angularly extending end 8 of the body member namely, that of providing a finger piece Which permits the lid to be readily opened. This is accomplished by simply pressing on the angularly extended end 8 so as to cause said end to move toward the rear wall of the box. This novel feature is especially advantageous when the holder is used in connection with boxes that are difficult to open, such as cigar boxes. If de sired, one of the holders may be placed on the forwardportion of the lid as shown in Fig. 4 to provide a finger piece at the forward portion of the box instead of at the rear portion as above described. In this Way, one holder serves'to hold the lid in its open position; while the other is used as meansfor raising the lid.

From theforegoing it will be readily seen that this invention provides a novel form of box lid holder which may be readily applied to any box using a hinged lid to not only hold the lid in its open position, but to 'tioned right angular also provide means whereby the lid may be easily moved to its open position. All of these features are possessed by a device that may be made from-a si-ngle lengthof material and which does not require separate fastening means to hold the same in engagement with the box.

V7 hat I claim is 1. A box lid holder consisting of a length of resilient material having a spur formed in one end portion, the opposite end of said body member being extended back upon said body member to provide a stop, the extremity of said end portion being offset and formed into a spur.

2. A box lid holder consisting of a length of resilient materiaha spur formed on one end of the body member, said spur extending in right angularrelation to the body member, the opposite end portion of said body member being I extended in angular relation to the body member, and back upon the body member and then extended at right angles to the body member, said last menportion having a spur formed thereon, said spur extending in spaced parallel relation to the body member and toward the first mentioned end of the body member.

3. A box holder consisting of a length of resilient material having a spur formed on one end portion thereof, the opposite end portion being extended back upon said length, in parallel relation thereto to substantially form a resilient stop, the extremity of the last mentioned end otfset and formed into a spur, whereby movement of the body member will cause yieldable movement of the stop upon contact of the stop with the box.
