CIGARETTE-CASE.
Appliation med may 2o, 191s. serial No. 235,603.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, PAUL P. citizen of the United States, Yakima,
CoRWr'N, a .residing a and useful Improvements in Y Cigarette- Cases, of which the followlng 1s a speclfication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an improved cigj arette case, and has for its primary object to provide a case for this purpose provided With means whereby access may be readily had to the contents thereof.
It is another object of the invention to provide a case for cigarettes and the like having a hinged cap or closure at one corner thereof, a removable end wall and a follower carried thereby to feed the cigarettes into the opposite end of the case, and a common means for retaining said end wall and the cap in their closed positions.
It is also another object of my invention to provide a cigarette vcase as above characterized, which is simple and durable in its construction, highly serviceable and convenient in practical use, and capable of manufacture at relatively small cost.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the improved construction, combination and arrangement of the several parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, subsequently claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and w ereinz- Figure lis a sectional view through a cigarette case constructed in accordance with the preferred embodiment of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view;
Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. l; and
Fig. 4 is a detail section taken on the line P-4 of Fig. 3.
Referring in detail to the drawing, 5 designates the body of the case, which is preferably constructed of sheet metal and is of general rectangular form. This case may be of any desired proportion and is provided with a removable rear end wall 6, said wall having studs or lugs 7 at one end thereof for engagement in o enings 8 in the bottom wall of the case. T is bottom wall is also preferably provided at its end with Specification of Letters Patent. i
in the county of Yakima and State of Washington, have inventedcertain new Patented rieb. e, raie.
an upturned iiange 9 for engagement over the outerface of the wall 6. To the other end of the removable wall 6 keeper member 10 is gularly therefrom.
To the under side of the top wall 11 of the case, a spring latch plate 12 is fixed at fixed and projects anof the case, a
spaced points intermediate4 ofv its ends 'asindicated at 12. This plate at one end terminates in a hook 14 to engage an angular lu 10 on the end ofthe keeper member 10. A jacent to this end of the latch plate the same is provided with a finger piece 15 which projects through an opening in the top wall 11 of the case.
A closure cap 19 is connected at one of its edges to the top wall 11 of the case by means of a hinge indicated at 20, said cap being formed centrally of its hinged edge with a lug or finger 21 which occupies a notch or recess cut outin the top wall 11 of the case when thel case is closed. This cap when closed'. constitutes one corner section of the case, as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing, and it will be observed that the forward end of the spring latch plate 12 projects beyond the hinge 20, and said latch plate coacting with the lug 21 yieldingly holds the cap in its closed position. Also, whenthe cap is moved to its open position as seen in dotted lines in Fig. 1, the spring plate coacts with the lug 21 to retain the cap in such open posltion.
The follower plate 17 is connected to the removable rear wall 6 of the case by means of a highly resilient spring 18, said spring in its normal condition being of. substantially circular form and operating to urge the cigarettes toward the opposite end of the case.
From the foregoing description, the operation of the invention will be fully understood. In order to fill or charge the case with cigarettes, the finger piece 15 is forced inwardly to disengage the latch spring 12 from the keeper member 10 on the rear end wall 6 of the case. This wall, together with the follower 17 may then be removed. After the case has been filled with4 cigarettes, the wall 6 is replaced, the lower end thereof being engaged behind the upstanding lug 9 on the bottom wall of the case and the lugs 7 on said end wall being engaged throu h the openings 8. Upon the release of t e latch plate 12 the terminal lu 14 thereon will coact with the lug 10 o thekeeper member and securely hold said end wall in its closed position. The spring pressed followerv17- will thus exerta constant ressure on the cigarettes so that they are ed for7 wardly to the case opening which is closed y the cap 19. This cap may be readily lifted by forcing upwardlyon its front wall and moved to the open position seen in Fig.l
1 so that access can be readily had to the interior of the case. When the cap is o en,
a number of the cigarettes, preferably a out 5,' are exposed at their upper ends at the corner ofthe case. rIhus, the cigarettes may be easily Aextracted and the cap then again closed and securely held -in such closed position by the spring plate 12.
A cigarette case constructed in the man.
of the several parts, it is to be understood that the device is susceptible of considerable modification uand I, therefore, reserve the a hinged cover or lid and a removable en Wall, the bottom vvallA of said body being formed at one end with an' upstanding flangevvith which one end of the removable Wall is adapted to coact,V a'keeper member fixed to' the other end of said removable Wall, and a resilient latch plate fixed to one of the body Walls of the case and coacting at one of its ends with the hinged lid to hold the latter in a closed position, the other end of said latch plate being adapted to coact with said keeper member to retain said end Wall in its applied position on the case body.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
