Description

J. W. OLIVER AND H. BRUCKER.
THREAD GUIDE AND SUPPORT. APPLICATION FILED Nov. 17.1920.

A TTORNEYS .ioia v w. driven. or am seas, N.
FF C J ;Y;.,;Aivn Hams nnucirnn, orNnwAnK JnnsnY j,
T0 all whom it mayconcern:
Be it known that we, JOHN W. OLIVER and HENRY BRUCKER, citizens of the United States, and residents, respectively, of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, and
Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and.
Improved Thread Guide and Support, of which the following is a full, clear, and
exact description.
This invention relates to thread guides and supports, and has for an object the provision of a simple, efiicient and economically manufactured thread guide and. support readily attachable to the hand of the person using it and in which the thread is led from the spool through the guide on the support in such a manner as to eliminate the tendency to unravel and snarl.
Another object of the invention is to provide a guide and support whichis adapted to receive spools of thread wound in a variety of ways so that the operation of the device is'as efficient in one case' as in another. e
A further ObJQOt resides in the particular construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawings. I
The invention is illustrated in the draw- Figure 1 represents the hand using the device, showing the device mounted thereon Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the thread.
guide and support;
Fig. 3 isa side elevation thereof; and Fig. 4- is a detail perspective view of the guide through which the thread passes.
As illustrated in the drawings, the device is adapted to be attached to the wrist l of the person using it, and comprises a plurality of curved resilient spring metal arms 2 adapted to embrace the wrist land which are preferably integrally connected together by a strip portion 2.
tween corresponding edges ofthe vertical portions 4; and is connected thereto by inof a person the end of the shaft 12 which thereby can To the upper f surfaceof the connecting member 2' a plate iSpeei fi catihn of letters Patent. ,Patented 9, 1921. flange-and the body portion of the plate 5 a channel of any desired width in which an annular ring or washer '8 is adapted to move back and forth. A slot 9'is formed in the plate 5, andthe washer 8 is pro- .videdwith an aperture 10. -The inwardly turned portions or ears 6 are provided with apertures 11 adapted to be connected to the vertical portions 4: by anysuitable means,-
such as rivets. The upper ends of the vertical portions 4: are adapted to receive a shaft 12, one end of which may be adjustably ,connected to a snap fastener 13 of any suitable type whereby the shaft is adjustably disposedin position to receive a spool of thread 'or other material 14: the free end 15 of which is adapted: to pass, inthe manner shown in Fig. 1, through the aperture 10 in. the washer 8.
If, as in manycase's, the thread is wound z gzag on the spool 14, the washer 8 will .move back-and forth in the channel formed by the flanges 7 so as always to be in the line with the thread and yet efficiently guide the same. i V
Itwill be observed that the main; body portion of our support and guideis formed of a small number of simply formed pieces of sheet metal which canbe very readily and economically manufactured and assembled. The spool ll can be removed by merely removing the snap fastener 13 from be taken out of the vertical portions 4:.
be made in this device without departing 5 from the spirit of the invention. 7
What we claim is: 1. A thread guide and support comprising a U-shaped integral body portion, a re- 1 By making this device, preferably, of aluminum its weight isreduced to a minimum, and combined with simplicity and j movable shaft extending between the outer ceive a spool of thread, resilient gripping members attached to the lower face of thebase of the U, a slotted plate disposed across between the leg members adjacent the base of the U frame, flanges onsaid slotted plate attached to the leg members, integral overturned flange portions on the upper and" .to a spool-supporting frame which comprises a slotted plate, a perpendicular flange ateach end ofsaidplate,- sai d flanges adapt- *edto be attached to the frame, overturned flange portions at the upper and lower edges ofthe'pla'te'and extending adjacent the slot, and an annular shaped washer disposed in the channel formed by said overturned flangeswandadaptedto receive a thread.
