LYDIA BROMAJN, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA A PRON.
Specification vof Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 9, 1921.
Application :tiled January 12, 1920. Serial No. 350,781.
To all 'whom it .may con-cern:
- Beit known that'I, LYDIA BRoMAN a citizen of the United States, residingat Minneapolis, in. the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useof which the following is a speciication. v
This invention relates to the class of wearing apparel, and more particularly to aprons.
` The invention aims to provide an improved and novel apron for general use, by housemaids, clerks, workers in factories and in many other instances, the material of the apron, depending upon jthe use somewhat and the device being simple in construction and designed so as to be made of a small quantity of material and therefore economical to produce and still be artistic in design and capable of being lreadily applied and easily washed and ironed.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved apron for miscellaneous uses, which isconstructed of few parts three being generally employed, including the front and back sections of the apron and a belt -or sash secured thereto in a novel manner, while the apron at the neck may be provided with lace or other fanciful collar, thereby producing an apron of attractive desi and quality.
ith the above `andother objects in view which will appear as Athe descriptlon pro` ceeds, the invention resides in thecombination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing 'from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the apron applied;
Fig. 2 1s a side' elevation f Fig. 3 is a plan view of a blank from which the apron is produced; and
Fig. 4 is a, detail showing the manner of fastening the belt-or sash to the apron and connectin the sides of the latter to preventI the same rom gapping open.
Referring to the drawings in detail, in which like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, my improved apron is shown as comprising a front section 10 and a back section 11, both being in the-form of gores or secshown, so that the lower portion will substantially encircle the skirt but ings at the sides.
y t is also to be understood that the apron can be made any length desired and each section is provided with a concaved cut-out 13 at the neck portion to provide a neck band, the edges of which are suitably hemmed all around, as indicated at 14. The shoulder portions 15 or edges of the sections at either side of the neck portion are provided with reinforced folds16, the back portion folding over the front and suitable detachable fastening means being provided thereat. As shown, the. folds of the back portion are provided With buttons 17 and the folds of the front portion are provided with button holes 18 for engagement over the buttons whereby the sections can be readily connected or disconnected, in applying or removing the same, and to facilitateY washing and ironing. It is thus to be seen that the garment can be readily laundriedand it 'will also be understood thatA in lieu of the buttons and button having open- 4holes, hoo-ks and eyes or other similar fastenlng means common in the art can be used, at the shoulders with the arms passing outwardly therebeneath at the sides and between the side edges of the sections.
The apron is provided with a suitable belt or sash 19, the sash as shown being adapted to be draped around the waist at one side and around the hip at the opposite side and extending downwardly at .the front and rear and tied in a suitable bow 20 from which the free ends of the elongated strip of hemmed material of which the beltis. made corresponding to the material of the front and back sections preferably, hang loosely. In order to support and retain the belt or sash in position, aghook and eye or snap fastener is provided between side edges of the sections at one side, as indicated at 21, preferably of the ball and socket type, so as to keep the sections at that side from spreading open too wide or far apart. The intermediate portion of the strip forming the belt or sash, is provided with a coperating part of a snap fastener or the like 22, preferably a socket member, adapted to engage the ball memberbow or the like as heretofore specified.
If desired, the collar may be suitably ornamented by lace or othercollar sections 24 'and 25 secured to the front and rear sections 10 and 11 at the out out portions 13 of the neck band or hole, the same being of the low neck type or otherwise as desired. The collar sections are basted or otherwise secured in position so as to be readily removed for laundrying or the like. As shown, there are preferably three buttons on each shoulder, and the material of the apron may be black sateen or any other material desired, water-proof or otherwise. The sash can be made plain vand can be tied to suit the wearer, and the apron Will not take more than two and a half or three yards of material to make it complete. It is also adapted for all around purpolses and can be economically produced and so c.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
An apron comprising front and back sections detachably connected at one end, said connected ends being cut out, the cut out portions cooperating to form a neck opening, there being longitudinal plaits within the sections and extending from the connected ends thereof along substantially parallel lines toward the centers of the sections thereby to provide fullness at the bottom of the apron, a fastener for detachably connecting the sections of the apron at one side at the waistline, a belt extending around the apron and having free ends adapted to be tied together, and means for detachably connecting an intermediate portion of the belt to one of the sections adjacent the point of connection between said sections at the waist line.
In testimony that I claiinthe foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
LYDIA BROMAN.
