Description

R. D. VINER.
COLLAPSIBLE BUCKET.
APPLICATION man 050.110.1919.
1,385,934. PatentedifulyZ, 1921.
E. I/nen RAYMOND D. VINER, 0F OG-DEN, UTAH.
COLLAPSIBLE BUCKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 26', 1921.
Application led December 30, 1919. Serial No. 348,259.
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, RAYMOND D. VINER, a citizen of the United States, residing Ogden, in the county of W'eber and State ot Utah, have invented certain new and usetul Improvements in Collapsible Buckets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the 1n vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to collapsible or telescopic buckets, its principal object being to provide a bucket which may be collapsed when not in use and which will be positively held in extended position when in use.
A further object of the invention is to provide a collapsible bucket which .may be quickly arranged in extended position and may be readily folded in compact form when not in use.
Another general object of the invention is to provide a bucket or pail which is simple in construction, consists of few parts, and may be manufactured at a minnnum cost.
lVith the above and other objects and advantages in mind, the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, construction and arrangement, operation and specilic features all of which are to be hereinafter fully enlarged upon and specifically defined in the subjoined claim, the invention being illustrated in the attached drawings wherein:
Figure l is an elevation ot the bucket in extended position;
Fig. 2 is a like view ot the bucket in collapsed position;
8 is a fragmentary detail view illustrating one of the hinged bars tor retaining the bucket in extended position and the latch associated therewith.
My improved bucket consists ot a plurality oil telescopic sections 5 litted within each other with suilicient tightness to afford water tight joints. The lowermost section is provided with a bottom wall 6 and an outwardly circumferential horizontally disposed annular flange 7 while the uppermost section is provided with a circumferential horizontally disposed flange 8.
In order to retain the bucket against collapsing when in use there is provided a pair of bars 9 which are disposed at diametrically opposite points on the bucket and have their upper ends hinged to the circumferential flange 8 through the medium of hinges 10. These bars are so arranged as to lie against the sections and have their ends abutting the flanges 7 and 8 respectively when the sections are in extended position. When the bucket is collapsed the bars 9 are folded inwardly upon the outer section 5 as illustrated in F ig. 2. The lower ends of each oit the bars is slotted as at ll and movable therein is the pivoted latch 1Q. adapted to engage the openings 13 in the flange 7 to retain the bars against accidental displacement. A linger engaging member 13 is pivotally mounted adjacent each of the latches l2 and is pivotally connected with its respective latch as at 14. Coil springs l5 are provided which are accommodated in the slotted ends of the bars and bear against the inner end oi the linger engaging members 13 and project these latches into engagement with the open ings in the flange 7 in the lower section 5. lt will be seen that pressing the linger engaging members downwardly the latches will be retracted from the ange 7 to permit. the bars to be swung upwardly upon the ends and disposed across the uppermost section.
The construction shown and described in the practical embodiment ot the invention but it will be understood that the same may be modified in many respects, and that limits of such modification are only governed by the subjoined claim.
that is claimed is A bucket comprising a plurality of teleseoping sections, the top and bottom sections having' outwardly extending projections, bars having their extremities engaging the inner faces ot' said projections to hold the bucket extended, means hingedly connecting the upper ends of the bars to the upper section to admit ot' the bars folding over the bucket, latches carried by the lower ends of the 'bars to positively and detachably engage the lower projection, and spring controlled finger engaging members mounted upon the bars tor operating the said latches.
In testimony whereof I atiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
RAYMOND D. VINER.
