IMPROVEMENT lN LAMP-FILLERS- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,415, dated April 29, 1873; application filed September 21, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGH HENRY VINCENT LILLEY, of Milford, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Lamp- Fillers; and I do hereby declare that the folof a plan view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of my invention. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the same. Fig.4 is a perspective view of my invention as applied.
This invention has relation to lamp-fillers; and consists in the construction of an improved elastic funnel, substantially as hereinafter more fully described.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, A designates the conical bowl, and B the neck of the funnel, which is made of thin metal or other suitableelastic material. 0 O designate crevices in the side of said bowl and neck. When the funnel is in actual use the crevice O is closed by one edge overlapping the other, as shown clearly in Fig. 3, so as to render the bowl A oil-tight and prevent leakage. The lower end of said bowl extends down some distance into the neck of the funnel, the crevice of the neck being closed by the edges meeting together. E designates a. curved spring-plate, secured to the inner surface of the bowl and having its raised end nearestto the crevice G F designates two handles, attached to the neck and bent as shown in the drawing.
In applying the funnel to the lamp the handles F are taken hold of by the thumb and first finger of the left and the lamp-burner removed and held in the right hand. The crevices O G are then opened by pressing the handles F toward each other, the wick put through them into the funnel and behind the spring E. The neck B is then put down over the neck of the lamp and the handles let go. The funnel is then in position for the introduction of the oil from a can of any size without danger of spilling.
G designates a spring snap-hook, attached to the bowl A and used as a means for carrying the tunnel or hanging it up.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The improved oil-funnel, consisting of the neck B and bowlA extending within said neck, said funnelbein g cleft through bowl and neck, substantially as specified.
2. The cleft bowl A and cleft neck B, in combination with the diverging handle F, substantially as specified.
3. The combination, with the cleft funnel, of the spring wick-holder E, substantially as specified.
