APPLICATION FILED PEB.27, 1911.
Patented July 25, 1911.
k z 9 a ANTON ALBERT WORZEN, 'OF SOUTH BROVINSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
HAT-PIN-'3OINT PROTECTOR.
Application filed February 27, 1911.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTON ALBERT W or.-
/ ZEN, a citizen of the United States of Amer;
protector, and the objects of the. inventionare to furnish a hat pin with a novel guard that will prevent persons from being injured by contacting with the pin, and the construction of a guard whereby it will prevent accidental displacement of the hat pin relatively to the hat.
Further objects of my invention are to provide a protector of the type described that can be easily and quickly placed in engagement with a. hat pin and to accomplish the above result by a device that is simple in construction, durable, neat in appearance and highly eiticient for the purpose for which it is intended.
Nith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in a novel construction and arrangementof parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a. hat pin provided with the device. Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical cross sectional view or" the device. 3 is a transverse sectional-view of the dev ce, and Fig. d is a perspective view of a detached spring adapt-ed to form part of the device.
The reference numeral 1 denotes a pin having a suitable head 2 at one end thereof and the opposite end pointed, as at; 3 and provided with a circumferentially arranged groove 4. I
The protector or guard for the pointed end 3 of the pin comprises a spherical body 5 having a t -shaped recess 6 formed therein, said recess extending from one side of the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Flirt Serial No. 611,183.
body in proximity to the other side thereof and in this recess is located a gripping member, comprising a V-shaped flat spring 7 having the lower end thereof provided with an opening 8 for the pointed end of the pin and the ends of said spring bent inwardly to provide oppositely disposed transverse ribs 9 adapted to engage in the groove t of the pin. The gripping member is of a less depth than the recess (3, thereby providing clearance for the point 01. the pin between the lower end of the gripping member and the bottom of the recess. and the walls of said recess are adapted to normally retain the ribs 9 contiguous to one another whereby when the pin is placed between the said ribs, they will be sprung apart until the groove 4'. is reached when they will enter said groove and hold one end of the pin in the body 5.
Mounted upon the body 5 over the open end of the recess (3 is a frusto-conical Shaped cap 10 having a bottom thereof recessed as at 11 to conform to the periphery of the body 5. Centrally of the cap there is a poring opening adapted to guide the picen rally of the recess 6, and a large end of the opening 12 permits of the protector or guard being easily placed upon the pointed end of the pin.
The bod 5 and the metal or any suitable ornamented.
What I claim is In a hat pin protector, the combination with a 'hat pin having the pointed end thereof provided with a circuint'erentially arranged groove, of a guard adapted to be detachably mounted upon the pointed end of said pin, said guard comprising a body having a f-shaped recess formed therein, a l-shaped fiat spring mounted in said recess cap 10 can be made of material and suitably and of a less depth than said recess, the bottom of said spring having an opening formed therein for the passage of said pin, each of the arms of said spring bent inwardly at a point; removed from its free end to provide arib, said ribs being oppositely disposed and adapted to engage in the groove of said pin, and a cap mounted upon ion saidbody over the open end of said recess 1 In testimony whereof I my signature and havlng a tapering opening extencing in the presence of two Witnesses.
in the same direction as said recess an of w r less diameter throughout than the mouth of ANTON ALBJRE VG-KEEN." the recess and adapted to guide said pin cen- Witnesses:
trally of said recess, substantially as de H. R. WARNOCK,
